Will Smith’s foray into romantic comedies didn’t quite go off without a hitch.
Twenty years after Will Smith appeared alongside Eva Mendes in the popular 2005 movie “Hitch”, its director, Andy Tennant, disclosed that their collaboration wasn’t always the smoothest during filming.
In an interview with Business Insider on February 11th, the filmmaker expressed that they encountered challenges. He further added, “The films I envisioned and what Will had in mind, neither were as effective as the one we produced collaboratively. It was a fierce struggle.
Andy alleged that the Oscar-winning actor was attempting to withdraw from the project merely three days prior to filming, supposedly to delve deeper into it. Yet, the director applauded Jada Pinkett Smith, Will’s wife, for her reported involvement backstage.
Jada played an essential role,” he added, “as she often validated my intuition. There was a moment in the preparation phase where I was resisting numerous unusual occurrences.
In spite of any reported disagreements, Andy expressed readiness to collaborate on another Hitch film and even presented a proposal for a sequel. However, his concept didn’t take flight at the time, but he mentioned that Will was now planning to develop a sequel independently.
He mentioned that it was approximately three months ago when he discovered this piece of information. During a conversation with an executive from Sony, he learned about the development of a sequel. Coincidentally, Will’s production company is working on this upcoming sequel.
Andy added, “Hey, that’s Hollywood.”
TopMob News has reached out to Will and Jada’s reps for comment but has not heard back.
Currently, the actor known for “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” is busy collaborating with Michael B. Jordan on a new project that serves as a continuation of the 2007 thriller “I Am Legend”. Jordan had expressed his excitement about teaming up with Will in the past.
As a lifestyle expert, I shared with People magazine in June that while we’re diligently refining the script, it doesn’t currently have a set release date. I can’t yet confirm where we’ll be filming, but I’m brimming with anticipation to stand before the camera alongside my collaborator.
