The actor from “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” recently released his first album in 20 years, and he’s sharing his experiences in his own voice. There are definite lyrical hints to events in his life, such as the incident with Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars, his intricate history with Jada Pinkett Smith, and mentions of his children Trey Smith (son with ex-wife Sheree Zampino) as well as Jaden Smith and Willow Smith (children he shares with Jada).

In the initial song on the album titled “Int. Barbershop-Day” with collaborations from DJ Jazzy Jeff and B. Simone, the artist, who is now 56 years old, quickly refers to the consequences following the infamous ‘slapgate’ incident.

“Will Smith is canceled,” he sings, before backtracking, “You can’t cancel no icon.”

The recurring lyric in the song appears to hint at ongoing resentment towards Will, as suggested by the phrase, “I will never be able to forgive him for what he did.

At the 2022 Oscars, during a comedian’s monologue that made light of Jada’s alopecia diagnosis, Will lost his temper and physically struck Chris. This intense incident became a major topic of discussion for a week afterward. In an impulsive move, Will stormed onto the stage, hit Chris, returned to his seat, and then shouted angrily across the Dolby Theatre, expressing his displeasure about Chris mentioning Jada’s name inappropriately.

At the barbershop, a group including Will, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and B. Simone engage in a lively discussion with patrons debating if Will’s relevance has changed due to recent scandals.

But as a result of a 10-year ban imposed due to a scandal, he was barred from attending any events hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, including the Oscars.

During the interview with TopMob News, Will expressed his agreement with the Academy’s verdict, saying, “I acknowledge and value their decision.

Despite his initial dismay about being barred by the Academy, he expressed a different sentiment in the song “You Lookin’ For Me?” with the lyrics, “My work is still valuable even if I won’t receive a nomination.

Additionally, just like the other performers on the “Based on a True Story” track, Will also makes references to gossip surrounding his marriage and the upbringing of his children, Trey (age 32), Jaden (age 26), and Willow (age 24).

He exclaimed, “What makes Will Smith think he’s so great? And that kid is really something else, the way he’s raising his children.

Later, he echoes the initial sentence, but finishes with, “His relevance persists mainly due to his children.

The lyrics clearly reference Willow and Jaden’s prominent positions within popular culture and their experiences of being ostracized by the Black community due to their individual expressions. This topic was touched upon during a 2020 episode of “Red Table Talk,” as discussed by Willow herself.

During the show, Willow expressed that she and Jaden seemed to be somewhat overlooked within the African American community, stating, “It felt like people weren’t going to embrace us because we were too unique, too unconventional.

After Jada openly shared that they had been apart for some time in 2023, Will also mentioned his ongoing support for her during a conversation at the barbershop, and even sang, “It’s said he’s feeling really rough.

Still, Will keeps his stance about the couple’s current status on that particular track ambiguous, as he sings, “My personal life with my spouse? Mind your own affairs, it’s a complex matter.
