Fans of the ABC drama ‘Will Trent‘ can breathe a sigh of relief, as the third season has already been guaranteed a fourth season return in 2025. However, there is something that these fans should be concerned about – a new character entering the life of GBI agent Will Trent, causing potential turmoil similar to how Will becomes anxious around large animals.
Actor Yul Vazquez, who’s role I’m pondering over questions for, is set to appear on Will Trent. His character might stir up some complications for Will, Angela, and the rest of the cast. Here’s a brief rundown of what we know about Vazquez’s upcoming entrance into the storyline.
Who Is Yul Vazquez Playing In Will Trent Season 3?
- Vazquez is joining Will Trent for a major recurring role, as described by TVLine.
- His character’s name is Sheriff Caleb, seemingly without a last name provided just yet.
- Sheriff Caleb is noted as being a hometown hero whose most prominent traits are being “rugged, handsome” and “fiercely stubborn.”
How Will Sheriff Caleb’s Story Cross With Will’s?
It seems that Caleb takes on a role of self-proclaimed leader within the community, vigilantly protecting it from outside interferences, while carrying a sense of resentment towards those who might challenge his methods. One could imagine him saying phrases like “Yeahhh, seeee?” with a flair reminiscent of an old-school gangster.

Regrettably, a prominent case falling under his purview is given to Will and Faith, and the sheriff immediately expresses their less-than-warm reception. However, this situation persists until an unforeseen twist in the investigation leads Caleb to reconsider the value of the GBI agents’ involvement.
When Will Yul Vazquez’s New Character Show Up?
I’m excited to share that in the upcoming Episode 17 of the current third season, I’ll be welcoming Sheriff Caleb onto my show, “Will Trent.” This episode, titled “Why Hello, Sheriff,” is noteworthy as it will be helmed by our very own Erika Christensen in the director’s chair. Can’t wait to see how this one unfolds!
Why Sheriff Caleb Will Likely Stick Around For Season 4
With only two episodes left in Season 3, Vazquez’s “major recurring” role suggests he won’t be making brief appearances. Additionally, the trailer for the upcoming episode labels him as a “newfound enemy.” While it’s possible that he could instantly transform into an old foe, I have my doubts.
Additionally, even with all the interconnected points, executive producer Liz Heldens was directly questioned about whether Yul Vazquez’s character is being developed into a major antagonist. However, her response remained vague on this topic.
Maybe
It seems that one might anticipate Will and Faith’s situation would conclude in a manner enabling them to leave Caleb’s town without encountering him again for the foreseeable future. However, it appears their current investigation holds broader implications for the direction of Season 4. As for good news, perhaps we can expect the sheriff to endure longer than Susan Kalechi Watson’s character did in the series.
Don’t forget to catch the last two episodes of the third season of Will Trent, airing every Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC. If you miss the live broadcast, you can stream it the following day with a Hulu subscription.
