Will Yor’s Dark Secret Be Uncovered by Yuri in Spy x Family?

In the continuation of the popular manga “Spy x Family”, we find Anya back at school following her vacation. This semester, classes have been reorganized according to students’ academic performance, but fortunately, her Friendship Scheme is preserved as Damian and she share a Language class. However, there’s much more happening beyond the walls of Eden Academy. The narrative subsequently focuses on Yor, who is embarking on a new mission in southwest Ostania. The Shopkeeper has grown worried about the illegal hunting of the Miteran elk in the area. Although the poachers aren’t particularly strong, their numbers are great, and they even trade with the West. The forests in this region serve as demilitarized zones between the East and West, which could potentially escalate tensions between the two powers.

Due to the potential threat of conflict at the Garden, it’s essential they take decisive steps to prevent poachers from causing harm. Not just the poachers, but also the forest wildlife could make this mission difficult for the assigned assassins. That’s why, besides Yor and Matthew, another assassin is considered necessary. A new character named Hemlock, introduced in Chapter 115, offers to join the mission. However, it appears there’s a high risk that Yor’s undercover identity could be exposed to Yuri during this operation.

The Garden Has Ties to the State Security Service

In the realm of Ostania, I’ve long been captivated by the enigmatic band known as “The Garden,” a clandestine group of assassins whose existence has been whispered through city streets for ages. Though their faces remain hidden, they are more than just folklore; their legend is solidified by an unparalleled mastery of their craft, mirroring the prowess of Yor himself.

The Shopkeeper, their enigmatic leader, resides in a castle steeped in history, a 16th-century edifice once bestowed upon the Emperor’s mother as a token of his affection. Few have ventured to his abode, but those who do are either distinguished dignitaries or fellow members of The Garden. It’s a secret world hidden within our own, and I can’t help but feel a thrill at the thought of unraveling its mysteries.

In Chapter 115, it’s revealed that Wilker, who holds a position as head of the State Security Service, is a familiar figure to the Shopkeeper. During this chapter, Wilker pays a visit to the Shopkeeper’s home and carries along a stack of documents. His purpose is to convince the Shopkeeper to aid the Prime Minister in his power struggle, but the Shopkeeper refuses as he prioritizes the Garden over politics. Out of all the files, only one, concerning the illegal hunting of the Miteran elk, manages to capture the Shopkeeper’s attention. Shortly after Wilker departs, the Shopkeeper encounters his assassins and designates Yor and Matthew for the mission. Hemlock then steps forward voluntarily to accompany them.

Given that Wilker is friends with the Shopkeeper, it’s possible that he might uncover Yor’s true identity at some point since he recruited Yuri into the SSS and holds him in high regard. It’s uncertain whether Wilker is acquainted with the assassins, but if he is, it’s unlikely due to their secretive nature and the fact they lead double lives, often away on missions while maintaining low profiles in everyday life. They would probably prefer to keep their identities hidden from individuals not directly involved in their operations. The Shopkeeper, however, resides at a fixed location, unlike these assassins.

Yuri and Yor Have a Deep Bond But Still Hide Their True Selves

One key theme of the narrative is that the principal characters maintain their true identities concealed from each other while leading ordinary lives. At just twenty, Yuri holds the position of Second Lieutenant in the organization, yet he keeps this fact a secret from his sister. Contrastingly, Yor has been an assassin since her childhood and has never disclosed her profession to anyone in her personal circle, including Yuri. The siblings lost their parents at a tender age, with Yor being seven years senior to him. As a result, she took every possible measure to support Yuri.

In this story, the main idea revolves around the characters hiding their true selves from one another while living ordinary lives. At the age of twenty, Yuri is a Second Lieutenant in the organization, but he keeps his role hidden from his sister. Unlike him, Yor has been an assassin since her early years and never revealed this to anyone in her personal life, not even Yuri. The siblings lost their parents at a young age, with Yor being older by seven years. As a result, she made every effort to care for Yuri.

Given Yuri’s protective disposition, it’s wise for her to keep him unaware of her line of work. Similarly, Yuri’s job is equally risky, and it’s prudent for him not to reveal his own identity. Typically, since they work for distinct organizations, their roles should remain separate. However, the Garden and the SSS serve Ostania, and given that their leaders are well-acquainted, there’s a possibility that the siblings could face each other, revealing their true identities.
