Wincey Willis – who was the first woman to present the weather on ITV – has died at the age of 76.
It was announced this week that she died six months ago in December 2024, a fact that had been kept private until now. Back in 2015, she was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.
Back in 1983, Willis made his debut on Good Morning Britain following a career with Radio Tees and Tyne Tees Television.
Afterward, she assumed the role as the primary weekday weather anchor for the station, while also hosting various television programs on TV-am. A significant portion of these shows focused on pets and animals.
Additionally to her role on Channel 4’s Treasure Hunt as a judge, she made multiple guest appearances on the program Cross Wits. Throughout her professional journey, she graced stages for panto performances, authored books, and even created a board game named “The Weather Game.
Apart from her, Willis spent a significant portion of her life advocating for environmental concerns and served as a global conservation volunteer. Her second book, titled ‘Greendays’, served as a journal, containing facts related to environmental matters and proposing suitable activities and initiatives.
A multitude of individuals expressed their condolences for Wincey Willis on social media following her passing, with BBC Wales weather presenter and journalist Sue Charles posting on X: “Disheartening news about Wincey Willis. Reminds me vividly of the initial days of Breakfast Television.
It’s regrettable to hear about the death of Wincey Willis in December 2024. Known for being a pioneering woman on television, she is fondly remembered when we watch reruns of Treasure Hunt, with Wincey often accompanying Anneka Rice.
A third individual stated, “Farewell Wincey Willis. Your cheerful smile and vibrant television presence will forever be etched in my memory as I prepared for school each day.
It was disheartening to learn that Wincey Willis, an essential cast member from one of my cherished television series, Treasure Hunt, tragically passed away towards the end of last year, at the age of 76.
She’s always full of positivity and cheerfulness, naturally brightening up the mood of people nearby with her infectious smiles.
