Windows 11's Microsoft Store update will make it easier than ever to find any app you've ever installed

What you need to know

  • Microsoft is testing out an updated library experience that makes it easier to find apps through the Microsoft Store.
  • The Microsoft Store also has a new page for updates and downloads, as well as an experimental feature that shows limited time events in a dedicated section.
  • Microsoft also updated the badge for its store that appears on websites using the Microsoft Store badge.
  • Windows Insiders in the Dev and Canary Channel can test the new features now.

As someone who has spent countless hours navigating through various software markets, I must say, Microsoft’s latest update to their Store is quite intriguing. The improved library experience and the dedicated section for limited time events are features that could significantly enhance user experience.

Users participating in the Windows Insider program, specifically those using the latest builds from the Dev and Canary channels, have the opportunity to experience an enhanced Microsoft Store. This week, Microsoft revealed updates to their Microsoft Store, which are now accessible for individuals running Windows 11 build versions 22407.xxxx.x and upwards.

In the most recent iteration of the Microsoft Store, you’ll find an enhanced library experience, a fresh interface dedicated to updates and downloads, a feature that supports temporary promotional events, and a revamped Microsoft Store logo.

As an analyst, I’ve made a change in the library page settings: instead of displaying only the apps I’ve installed, the default filter now shows all the applications I own. Additionally, release notes for these apps can be found within this section of the store. Furthermore, a new search bar has been added to help you quickly locate an app by its name or publisher.

In the Microsoft Store, you’ll now find an organized section at the top displaying both active downloads and pending updates for ongoing tasks. Additionally, it provides a record of recent updates to help maintain the latest versions of your applications.

Microsoft is temporarily testing special events for selected apps within the Microsoft Store. These events are highlighted in a distinct area of the store specifically designed to showcase such programs.

The enhancements for the Microsoft Store are being released progressively to users who have Dev and Canary versions of Windows 11 installed. Keep in mind that you might not notice the updates immediately. Here’s a brief summary, as provided by Microsoft:

Microsoft Store update: August 2024

An updated library experience

In our latest update, we’re making enhancements to the library page for a more streamlined user experience. Initially, we’ve boosted the default filters so they display all the items in your collection, not just installed ones (though you can switch back if preferred). Additionally, we’ve incorporated a search function that allows you to locate apps or games based on their name or publisher using your Microsoft account. These improvements together offer a potent tool: effortlessly discover any application or game you’ve ever purchased with your Microsoft account.

A new page for updates and downloads

We’re relocating the list of updates and downloads from the primary library section to a separate, specialized page. This new page will present your active downloads or pending updates, along with a list of recent installations or updates. You’ll also find version notes for any upcoming update or currently active download on this dedicated page.

Limited time events

In certain areas, we’re trying out a fresh segment on our Games page featuring chosen collaborators who host in-app activities. To make things more intriguing, we’ve teamed up with game creators to spotlight actual events happening during the trial phase.

The updated Microsoft Store badge is here!

We’ve updated the layout of the Microsoft Store emblem, enhancing its call-to-action for a smoother user experience and boosting their confidence in downloading your application.
