In a groundbreaking overhaul, DC Comics’ “Absolute Wonder Woman” has redefined the superheroine, maintaining the essence that has established Wonder Woman/Diana Prince as a prominent cultural icon for more than eight decades. The recent installments of “Absolute Wonder Woman” depict Diana, who has departed her domain in Hell, valiantly defending humanity against the colossal Tetracide monster menacing Gateway City. In the initial skirmishes, Diana loses her entire right arm; however, writer Kelly Thompson later discloses in flashback sequences that Diana has been without this limb for years, having sacrificed it to resurrect Steve Trevor. The arm she fights with now bears a striking red tattoo.

View Urgent ForecastIn issue #4 of “Absolute Wonder Woman”, we delve deeper into the dark sorcery that Diana mastered in Hell under her adoptive mother Circe’s tutelage. Currently, Diana is using a temporary metal replacement for her arm, crafted by Hephaestus. Yet, to confront the Tetracide once more, she realizes she needs the full strength of the mystical arm she made herself. To re-summon that arm, she must perform an elaborate, gruesome spell with a bloody ritual.
Steve accompanies Diana to Etta Candy’s local magic shop, a nod to the famous Wonder Woman character in a fresh interpretation by the Absolute Universe. Inside, Etta and her sister Gia discover an assortment of contemporary ingredients essential for Diana’s spell to restore her lost arm. Assembling the required items, Diana requests that everyone – including Steve – step outside while she performs the ritual within a backroom of the shop, as the incantation is expected to become extremely violent.
By invoking Hecate and reciting an incantation, Diana restores her scarlet arm, yet this restoration exacts a price: Etta, Gia, and Steve are required to contribute drops of their blood to the ritual – blood that Diana then smears all over herself. Upon recitation of the spell, Wonder Woman experiences a bloody lightning bolt strike, and her arm regenerates from the blend of blood and flames. Afterward, Diana remains drenched in blood, prompting Etta’s suggestion for her to clean up thoroughly with a towel before venturing into combat.
The Witchy Wonder Woman
In a captivating twist, Wonder Woman Extraordinaire maintains her essence of kindness and empathy, but within an entirely novel context. This new setting presents Diana as a resident of the sinister Isle of Hell, under the watchful eye of Circe as a surrogate mother figure. This contrasting upbringing has equipped Diana with both ominous magical powers and formidable weaponry, making her far more intimidating than her usual Amazonian self in the main universe.
The dark magic that flows through Diana is not without its consequences. For instance, she has already demonstrated the ability to sacrifice an arm for a loved one’s safety, only to regain it by drawing blood from the same lover. This portends potential hints of the extreme measures Diana might take in her quest to safeguard the world, suggesting she may be compelled to traverse paths that could be seen as morally questionable or even malevolent.
