As a long-time Warcraft enthusiast who’s been through the highs and lows of Azeroth since its humble beginnings, I must say that this latest announcement from Blizzard has truly rekindled my passion for this magnificent universe! The ‘Undermine(d)’ patch, with its Goblin-centric storylines and the much-anticipated 8-man Raid against the infamous Gallywix, is shaping up to be an epic adventure that I can’t wait to embark on.

In just a short while, it will be twenty years since Blizzard Entertainment’s popular massively multiplayer role-playing game, World of Warcraft, first captivated players and made a significant impact on the genre and gaming community as a whole in the year 2004.

To mark the special event, Blizzard unveiled several significant updates for its renowned MMORPG during the Warcraft 30th Anniversary Direct. These include a substantial Goblin-themed patch update for The War Within, the introduction of the Mists of Pandaria expansion to World of Warcraft: Classic, and the long-awaited Player Housing feature set to arrive in the Midnight expansion. Fans have been eagerly anticipating this particular gameplay aspect for close to two decades!

Here’s the lowdown on all the thrilling changes headed your way in World of Warcraft! (or alternatively, Here’s a rundown of all the fun new content updates you can expect in World of Warcraft!)

World of Warcraft: The War Within – Undermine(d) Patch

The first big announcement for World of Warcraft is that World of Warcraft: The War Within will be receiving a Goblin-themed content patch update titled ‘Undermine(d)’ sometime later during the 1st quarter of 2025. In this patch, players on their quest to stop the evil Xal’atath from harming Azeroth’s Worldsoul will be pulled into a madcap adventure in Undermine, the capital city of the Goblin race.

In this fresh setting, gamers find themselves caught up in an intense territorial dispute among rival Goblin gangs aiming to dominate the urban landscape. Additionally, they must deal with the reemergence of the notorious ex-Goblin leader, Gallywix.

Gameplay-wise, the Undermine(d) patch will include the following features:

  • The start of Season 2.
  • Two new Delve dungeons along with thematic updates to the current Delves.
  • A new ground-mount vehicle outfitted with speed-boosters to help players quickly traverse the new Undermine zone.
  • A new dungeon that will be included in the Season 2 Mythic+ Pool alongside the four remaining launch dungeons three legacy dungeons.
  • A new 8-boss Raid dungeon where players will square off against Gallywix and his army of minions.

World of Warcraft: Midnight – Player Housing

However, this news doesn’t compare to the teaser trailer Blizzard showed at the end of the Warcraft 30th Anniversary Direct, which confirms that player housing will finally be coming to the World of Warcraft in its upcoming Midnight expansion.

Gameplay aspect called Player Housing enables players to purchase and customize an in-game dwelling with luxurious items such as furniture and awards they’ve earned during their journeys. For almost two decades, fans of World of Warcraft have been clamoring for this feature, particularly since other MMORPGs like Final Fantasy 14 offer player housing.

In the summer of 2025, players can finally look forward to claiming a personal residence for their characters as player housing becomes available, alongside numerous other exciting gameplay additions in the World of Warcraft: Midnight expansion.

World of Warcraft Roadmap

Apart from Goblin Raids Season 2 and player housing, there’s plenty more to look forward to in World of Warcraft! The latest 2025 content roadmap unveiled by Blizzard Entertainment promises a wealth of exciting content over the coming year.

These new upcoming content updates to look forward to include:

  • New story quests.
  • A zone to explore called Siren’s Isle.
  • The return of the Plunderstorm event.
  • Turbulent Timeways.
  • The Winter Veil event with new quests.
  • Content and system changes.
  • System and UI updates for the Warbands feature.
  • Horrific Visions Revisited.
  • The Nightfall questline.
  • Season 3.
  • The grand reveal of the World of Warcraft: Midnight expansion.
  • and much more.

World of Warcraft: Classic – Mists of Pandaria Classic

As a dedicated fan, I can’t contain my excitement over the upcoming content for both the retail and classic versions of World of Warcraft! In addition to the retail version, Blizzard has unveiled plans for World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria Classic, which promises a fresh wave of adventures in the near future.

In the upcoming major update for World of Warcraft: Classic, players will have an opportunity to re-explore the Mists of Pandaria expansion, just as it initially appeared in 2012 (with some modifications to gameplay mechanics), when it becomes active on the progression servers during Spring of 2025.

As per the recently unveiled update plan for World of Warcraft: Classic, we can anticipate several modifications for Season of Discovery and World of Warcraft: Cataclysm before the debut of World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria Classic. Furthermore, the regular and Hardcore servers for the 20th Anniversary Edition Realms are scheduled to commence operation on November 21, 2024. These realms will synchronously receive content updates up to Burning Crusade Classic.

There’s never been a better time to a part of the World of Warcraft than now.

During these massive World of Warcraft updates, the long-awaited player housing feature, and the recent announcement of remasters for the classic Warcraft Real-Time Strategy games, Blizzard has certainly made a grand celebration for Warcraft’s 30th anniversary. Personally, I can’t wait for the ‘Undermine(d)’ update since it promises to be an exhilarating, action-packed adventure with Goblin-centric storylines, and I can hardly contain my excitement to battle Gallywix in the 8-man Raid.

For quite some time, this ruthless, wealth-obsessed antagonist has consistently betrayed players, subjected his own subjects to bondage, and even exploited the beloved character Sylvanas Windrunner into launching a war against the Alliance in pursuit of the rare resource Azurite. This relentless pursuit resulted in untold casualties during the Battle for Azeroth expansion, with the primary objective being personal gain.

Without a doubt, I’m eagerly anticipating the final confrontation with Gallywix and his punishment for his wrongdoings when Season 2 of World of Warcraft: The War Within, the upcoming expansion for one of Blizzard’s top PC games, debuts in Spring 2025.
