Following the announcement by EA Sports and Codemasters that they were discontinuing future rally racing simulations, the fate of the WRC license has become more apparent. As EA Sports WRC was Codemasters’ only and final release under their contract with WRC which recently expired, the license is now being returned to Nacon, as they have declared.
Prior to the license being held by Codemasters, Nacon in collaboration with KT Racing produced more than six WRC (World Rally Championship) games. Now, Nacon claims they have regained exclusive rights for the period between 2027 and 2032. The publisher has announced that their upcoming WRC game will serve as a complete overhaul of the franchise, inspired by an entirely new concept.
Alain Falc, CEO of Nacon, expressed his excitement about continuing their partnership with WRC Promoter. This well-known license offers an exceptional setting for creating a finely tuned gaming experience that caters to the demands of rally enthusiasts. Over the years from 2015 to 2023, we’ve had the privilege of working closely with the championship’s official teams and drivers, which provided us with valuable, unique insights into transforming rally racing into a video game format. This new phase signifies an important milestone – a complete overhaul of the project by a dedicated and skilled team, aiming to push the boundaries and take rally games to unprecedented levels.
Following a thorough examination, it brings us immense joy to announce that we have come to terms with Nacon. As articulated by FIA World Rally Championship’s Chief Marketing Officer, Arne Dirks, their vision for the franchise is exceptional, and their ability to create outstanding rally games is undeniable. We eagerly anticipate this partnership as it promises to pave the way for innovative developments, transforming WRC games into extraordinary journeys, and redefining gaming experiences by venturing beyond the boundaries of traditional rally gaming.
It’s still uncertain when we’ll get an official reveal or a sneak peek at the gameplay, but it appears that Nacon is aiming to launch their initial title in the year 2027.
