WWE 2K25 – Everything You Need to Know

Enthusiasts of professional wrestling have been enjoying a prosperous period lately as the WWE 2K series has consistently improved. The latest release built on the changes introduced in 2021 and has received widespread acclaim for its enhancements. For this year’s edition, the development team is introducing an expansive new hub teeming with activities and entertaining twists. However, the Island mode isn’t the only intriguing innovation. Here are fifteen significant aspects that players should be aware of when they play WWE 2K25.

New ‘The Island’ Mode

Without a doubt, the most notable feature is ‘The Island’, our new social gathering spot, which has been divided into four unique districts. Hero HQ pays tribute to modern WWE legends, while The Temple of Ancestors showcases a Lucha style with respect to wrestling icons from times past. The Deadlands is where you’ll find the eerie and supernatural, complete with challenges inspired by The Undertaker and Kain. However, my personal preference goes to The Arcade of Tomorrow, which offers a futuristic, cyberpunk-inspired ambiance.

In essence, “The Island” in WWE 2K25 focuses on developing your personalized MySuperstar fighter by tackling distinctive hurdles and enhancing them using various cosmetic items and abilities. Additionally, competitive players can anticipate the latest Player versus Player (PVP) rank system. This new mode is a significant component of the live service center for WWE 2K25, ensuring regular content updates as the seasons shift. It’s important to note that “The Island” doesn’t replace Showcase Mode or MyGM; instead, it offers a wealth of gaming experiences in this year’s WWE title.

Biggest Wrestling Roster Ever?

2K has declared that this year’s game boasts the largest WWE roster ever. Although it seems accurate given the confirmed over 300 characters, it’s not a significant leap from last year’s roster. The roster for 2K24 maxed out at 295 fighters (including DLC characters), so this year offers players slightly more variety from the start. From legendary figures like Macho Man Randy Savage to modern influencers such as Logan Paul, every era of WWE is well-represented in this extensive roster.

New Create-A-Moveset Options

It appears that the extensive lineup isn’t just for appearance, but offers a more customized experience. Now, you can adjust the timing and intensity of AI actions for many WWE superstars. The reappearance of Create-a-moveset allows you to assign numerous moves to any button, while the new AI move tuning guides fighters on when to execute specific moves based on the stage of the fight. What’s crucial is that you can regulate how frequently a move should be repeated to discourage excessive use or encourage spam attacks.

Return of Chain Wrestling

The ‘mini-game’ for chain wrestling has returned after a six-year absence due to player requests. Unlike a regular match or mode, it’s a special hotspot mini-game that takes place during one-versus-one matches at the start. Its purpose is to mimic the intricacies of stance holding in wrestling. Players will take turns moving towards the ropes, switching holds, and twisting in the current hold. It will be exciting to observe how it has evolved since its initial version.

New Underground Matches

In the Underground Matches, chain wrestling is replaced by a novel type of contest. This fresh format eliminates the ropes from the arena, making it necessary to secure a victory via knockout or submission exclusively. However, the most peculiar entertainment occurs outside the ring where non-playable characters and various personalities interact unpredictably with the match.

Interactive Environments

These recent underground matches, along with Backstage Brawl, provide us with some of the most engaging stages yet. Fans of wrestling have long been curious about what transpires backstage, and now they can experience these moments themselves, to a certain extent. The NXT Parking Lot and WWE Archives areas are filled with unique WWE memorabilia, such as the large Smackdown fist and even toxic Prime bottles that players can use to attack wrestlers.

Over The Shoulder Cam

As a passionate fan, I’m excited about the innovative addition in WWE 2K25 – the third-person over-the-shoulder camera angle during matches and entrances. This perspective, which can be switched on and off, adds an extra layer of immersion to the game. However, it does come with a trade-off; when used during intense fights, it takes away some control as the right stick is used to maneuver the camera and execute moves. To cater to players’ preferences, WWE 2K25 has thoughtfully paired typical right stick moves with the right shoulder button, allowing you to control the camera using only the right stick if desired. What really piques my interest is how this new camera angle ramps up the difficulty of multi-opponent brawls, adding an exciting challenge to the gameplay experience.

Intergender Matches

Absolutely, you’re correct! Intergender contests are now commonplace in many matches. In fact, most types of matches allow for intergender interactions, enabling male and female contestants to engage in tag-team battles without the need for gender swapping to match opponents. It’s important to mention that blood is not a factor in intergender fights, but in other contests, both genders can sustain injuries that result in bleeding.

Showcase Mode

In this updated version, the Showcase mode featuring campaign themes comes back with three unique methods to impact the outcome of iconic WWE matches. You can relive history by reenacting legendary bouts, alter history by presenting a different perspective on these timeless classics, or create history by matching older legacy fighters against current champions in specifically designed battles. These encounters will be narrated by Paul Heyman himself. Each match has objectives attached to them, and now many of them include time limits for added intensity. The developers at Visual Concepts explain that the new timer is intended to “provide a reason for players to either replay or take on an additional challenge,” drawing inspiration from the license tests in Gran Turismo.

Assigning Weapons

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that a beloved feature from past games is making a comeback – the trusty weapon wheel! This time around, it brings along a new, finely-tuned alternative for even more strategic gameplay. In the heat of battles, players can now designate their favorite superstars with specific weapons! Imagine the Undertaker reaching for his iconic Urn instead of the usual table, adding a fresh twist to the action that’s sure to invigorate every match!

More Matches for Guest Referee Mode

Last year’s WWE title showcased role-playing as a referee as an intriguing aspect, but it was restricted to only one-on-one fights. However, this year offers a significant expansion. Now, players can act as guest referees in various matches such as tag-team, cage matches (Hell in a Cell), four-way elimination battles, and triple threat contests.

Streamlined Reversal Moves

In WWE 2K25, all three types of reversals have been combined into a single button for a more streamlined gameplay experience. This modification simplifies an action that was previously context-sensitive. Previously, dodging and blocking required separate buttons, but now you simply hold the button to block and press it rapidly to dodge. This minor adjustment can greatly improve the flow of combat in the game.

Alternate Submission Mini-Game

Bid farewell to continuous button pressing, unless you find that fun! Besides the traditional button mashing moves, a Submission Wheel from previous games is making a comeback. Characters’ names are now color-coded within this wheel for simple distinction between fighters. The objective of this mini-game is to align your slider with the opponent’s, effectively ‘trapping’ or subduing them. The revamped wheel system for submissions has faced criticism in the past, but the updated user interface improvements help clarify what’s happening during gameplay.

Virtual Currency

Most items and bonuses on The Island are buyable using in-game virtual money. This currency is often earned by winning exhibition matches or advancing through different game modes in WWE 2K. VC, as it’s commonly known, serves as one of the primary methods for microtransactions in the game’s store. Similar to last year’s edition, 2K25 is likely to have two separate virtual currencies: one for MyFaction and another for the rest of the game. If past years are any indication, you won’t need to spend real money to enjoy a complete experience beyond the base price in 2k25.

What Editions Are There?

Just like many newly released games, “WWE 2K25” is priced at $69.99 for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions, whereas the PC, PS4, and Xbox One editions are sold for $59.99. At present, there are two special editions up for grabs. The Deadman Edition, priced at $99.99, offers a variety of extras for use in The Island, along with characters and 15,000 VC. On the other hand, the Bloodline Edition, costing $129.99, includes all the Deadman Edition perks plus additional items and 32,000 VC. If you opt for one of these special editions, you can start playing “WWE 2K25” on March 7th, which is before its global release date set for March 14th.
