WWE Announces Dakota Kai is Injured, Will Undergo Surgery

As a die-hard WWE fan who has seen more than a few of my favorite wrestlers battle through injuries, it’s always bittersweet to see another resilient fighter like Dakota Kai face yet another setback. Her journey has been filled with ups and downs, but her spirit remains unbroken. I remember cheering her on during her debut match and now here we are, rooting for her recovery once again.

Presently, Dakota Kai, a fellow member of Damage CTRL, is dealing with an injury and will need to take some time off. After a severe knee injury in February that kept her out for several months, she’s been making a comeback in WWE. However, a new injury has arisen, and she’ll now be sidelined for approximately 8-10 weeks following surgery on her torn meniscus. Kai’s tenure with WWE has been marred by knee issues, as she’s had multiple unfortunate ACL tears in the past. To maintain the storyline, WWE is portraying Sonya Deville and the Pure Fusion Collective as responsible for re-aggravating Kai’s injury.

In June, Kai openly shared her wish to compete in a singles match at a WWE Premium Live Event. She clarified, “I haven’t had the chance as a solo competitor for a PLE; I’m not referring to NXT. You know what I mean,” during her Twitch broadcast. In essence, she was expressing frustration like, “[slams hand on desk], ‘Grant me an opportunity, please, anything.’ I’m so emotional about this. No, it’s my allergies making me tear up. I’m not really crying. But seriously, support me, buddy!”

It’s not just Kai who’s dealing with an injury this year; her comrade Asuka had surgery after their defeat at WWE Backlash in May, leaving her sidelined since then. Interestingly, Asuka was on the WWE Japan tour recently, which was also the last time Kai wrestled. Meanwhile, Seth Rollins, who’s been hit hard by injuries over the past year, is recovering from a brief comeback. His wounds, as portrayed in storyline, were inflicted by Bronson Reed, with WWE suggesting that he was hurt by six Tsunami attacks to his abdomen.

What’s Next for Damage CTRL?

Two members of Damage CTRL, Kairi Sane and IYO Sky, are the only ones left. Their momentum doesn’t seem to be stopping as they are currently involved in a title challenge against WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre. They had almost secured a chance to become number one contenders on the red brand, but those plans were foiled; instead, WWE established a three-way contest. Next week on Raw, Fyre and Dawn will defend their titles against Damage CTRL, Shayna Baszler, and Zoey Stark. It’s worth mentioning that Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair are still in the running following their unexpected defeat on a recent SmackDown.

ComicBook wishes Kai well in her recovery. Stay tuned for news and updates as they are provided.
