WWE Announces Tournament to Crown Inaugural Speed Women's Champion

As a seasoned gamer with decades of wrestling fandom under my belt, I must say that I find the introduction of the WWE Speed Women’s Championship Tournament to be both exhilarating and confounding. On one hand, I appreciate the opportunity it presents for female superstars to experiment with new characters, moves, and storylines, potentially leading to larger opportunities within the division.

In April, WWE unveiled a collaboration with X to introduce a fresh opportunity for both WWE athletes and enthusiasts. Apart from Raw, SmackDown, and NXT, WWE introduced the Speed title, a social media championship contested in brief matches every week. This innovative concept has garnered significant attention, amassing millions of impressions on their social platforms. Andrade is currently the Speed Champion, having seized it from Ricochet before his exit from WWE. Since then, he’s successfully defended it against Xavier Woods and Baron Corbin.

In order to build upon their past triumphs, the WWE has unveiled the Speed Women’s Championship, offering a similar platform. Previously, women wrestlers in the WWE could only convey their narratives within three-minute matches. However, they now have a more substantial presence on the main stage, being taken more seriously.

As a passionate fan, I’m thrilled about the debut of the Women’s Championship title! This fresh opportunity could let our favorite Superstars experiment with unique character traits, moves, and hone skills they might not otherwise get to work on, given their limited screen time. With the WWE community rallying behind them, this could open up bigger prospects within the division.

It’s time to crank up the pace even more for #WWESpeed! We’re thrilled to share that the Women’s Championship Tournament for WWE Speed will debut on September 4 at 12 pm ET / 9 am PT, and it can only be watched on @X.

The news has sparked differing opinions among fans on social platforms. While some view it as an excellent platform for showcasing female talent, others express disappointment about inadequate screen time for women, whether through matches, promos, or backstage scenes. A fan commented, “With the speed championship coming up, we can expect an entertaining digital presence from the women. Chelsea Green could make a fantastic first champion.”

The original text states: “That speed title better not be Triple H’s way of avoiding giving the women a midcard title…”
