As a lifelong WWE fan who’s been through the highs and lows of countless title changes, I must say, last week’s Monday Night Raw left me exhilarated! Jey Uso’s victory and his unique Intercontinental Championship belt design are a breath of fresh air in the wrestling world. The blue accents hark back to the old WWF Intercontinental Championship, evoking nostalgia that hits right in the feels.
Last Monday night during the wrestling show “Monday Night Raw”, the Intercontinental Championship was passed on again, with Jey Uso, a former multiple Tag Team Champion, being crowned. This victory marks his first-ever individual title win in the WWE. It’s been clear for some time that it was necessary to give Uso the championship sooner rather than later. To commemorate his triumph, he has received a custom belt design, although it is uncertain whether this is just a special edition or the new design permanently. Regardless, it’s the same belt with blue accents added, paying tribute to its history by referencing the old WWF Intercontinental Championship. This belt is now available for purchase on the WWE Shop at $499.
The party didn’t last long for Uso as the previous champion unexpectedly entered the ring. Contrary to popular belief, he wasn’t there to spoil Uso’s victory; instead, he offered his congratulations because the title held significant value for him. Fans were perplexed after Bron Breakker’s defeat last week, as they wondered about the future direction of his character. However, if WWE indeed intends to establish him as a hero in the upcoming era of Monday nights, why was he forced to lose so quickly?

It seems much of the response revolves around reinforcing his persona – overconfidence led him to believe he was invincible, a mistake another took advantage of. The WWE doesn’t appear to have written off this promising talent just yet; instead, they’ve provided him with an authentic narrative and something substantial to pursue, rather than repetitive squash matches every week. There were friendly greetings between the men, implying Breakker hasn’t been sidelined permanently, and a rematch may be on the horizon in the future.
It’s possible that the Intercontinental Championship isn’t the only title up for a revamp. The Undisputed WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes, has openly voiced his wishes to see an iconic, well-liked belt design reappear in WWE. As per Rhodes, he is diligently working towards this goal, and it seems more like a question of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’. This particular belt was the one that Dusty Rhodes pursued throughout the 70s and 80s.
I’d love to hear your opinions about Jey Uso’s Intercontinental Championship title! Could you share your thoughts on this and with Bluesky at @haleyanne_, too? Of course, don’t forget to keep up-to-date with the latest WWE news here on ComicBook.
