Over the last year, WWE has attracted several high-profile free agents, many of whom have quickly left their mark in NXT. Among them is Ricky Starks, formerly of AEW, who adopted the name Ricky Saints and swiftly claimed the NXT North American Championship. Since then, Saints has been a tenacious champion, but he’s had to keep battling Ethan Page. Tonight, however, Saints failed to retain his Title, with Page emerging victorious as the new NXT North American Champion.
It’s no exaggeration that Page and Saints hold intense dislike for each other now, and whenever they find themselves in the same space, physical altercations ensue. Consequently, Ava Raine has made an official match between them for tonight’s NXT event, and the show commenced with Saints and Page squaring off.
In the heat of the game, Saints and Page displayed no restraint whatsoever, and there were several instances where it seemed like either competitor might emerge victorious. At one point, the contest turned into pure chaos, causing referees to consider calling the match due to disqualification. The audience, eager for more action, demanded that the game continue. Eventually, Ava had to intervene and announce that a decisive winner was required, not just for the match but also for the enthusiastic spectators.
The game went on, and it grew increasingly intense. Saints and Page clashed violently, sending them both crashing over the commentators’ table, entangling themselves in various cables. Security personnel had to intervene to keep them apart. Suddenly, Page forcefully thrust Saints’ head onto a chair’s edge, and Saints reacted instinctively by grabbing his own throat as he fell, struggling to breathe.
Leveraging the opponent’s injury and the Saints’ apparent weakness, Page seized the opportunity to defeat the Saints, pinning him down in the process, thereby claiming the NXT North American Championship. This unexpected victory, despite Saints’ high-profile presence on the show and his wide popularity, adds an intriguing twist to the Title and the division as a whole.
Despite the tough setback that forced Saints out, his strength remains undiminished, suggesting a potential comeback for the Title sooner than expected. Meanwhile, Page currently holds the Title, but Ava’s involvement may shift things quickly. Later in the show, it was disclosed that Page would defend his Championship at World’s Collide in a Fatal 4-Way match against Rey Fenix, Je’Von Evans, and Laredo Kid. This could mean a brief reign for Page if he’s not vigilant.
