As a fervent fan, I’m thrilled to see John Cena’s heel tour gathering momentum following his victory over Randy Orton at WWE Backlash. However, the identity of his next challenger for the Undisputed WWE Championship was an unexpected twist during SmackDown tonight. Truth be told, I never thought this match would be among Cena’s final bouts.
The encounter with Orton was a night to remember, especially with R-Truth making a surprising entrance and intervening on Cena’s side. Yet, Cena didn’t share the same sentiments. Moved by a heartfelt appeal from Truth tonight, WWE has unveiled that Cena will square off against R-Truth for the Title at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
Despite R-Truth consistently backing John Cena after his alliance with The Rock and betrayal of Cody Rhodes, Cena has never returned the favor, although he also didn’t actively antagonize either. However, this dynamic shifted dramatically during the Backlash press conference, as Cena brutally tossed R-Truth through a table in full view of the media before exiting the scene.
Regardless of the apparent obstacle, Truth maintains that the genuine Cena resides within him. In a conversation with Wade Barrett, Truth disclosed why he’s competing against Cena at Saturday Night’s Main Event and what his objective is: to resurrect the Cena he has always admired.
Life can be challenging, Wade, with all the demands from work, family, friends, and finances. Yet, no matter what life throws at you, you can always rely on John Cena.”
“Whenever you felt like giving up, what did John encourage you to do? Keep going. You might not have expected it then, but when your moment came, he said: Your time is now. Remember his values: Hustle, Loyalty, Respect. They aren’t just empty phrases; they are a guiding light for you.”
“If John Cena could overcome adversities, so can you, Wade.
When Barrett mentioned his part in the wrestling match between Cena and Orton, Truth attributed the victory entirely to Cena. “Wade, John Cena won that match on his own,” Truth said. “You don’t understand John Cena like I do. The man at the press conference was not John Cena. The John that I know wouldn’t betray the fans who love and support him. The John that I know wouldn’t be discussing ruining wrestling.” Truth added, “He threw his friend, his brother, through a table? I don’t want to fight John, but if I must bring him back to his senses, I will. I plan to do it. I’ve already spoken with Nick Aldis. It’s settled; it’s for Saturday Night’s Main Event.
Truth stated, “John is the best there ever was, but I recall my role model’s advice about tackling the seemingly impossible: never quit. Regardless of the outcome on Saturday Night, I will walk off with my head held high because I will adhere to three principles – work hard, stay loyal, and show respect. That’s the essence.
Initially, Cena appears to be showing some cracks during his heel phase, but he did use a table to send a powerful message. It remains to be seen if R-Truth can respond in kind at this weekend’s Saturday Night’s Main Event. Given R-Truth’s previous performances (especially his interview with Barrett), this match has potential to outshine the rest of the program. Here’s the current lineup for Saturday Night’s Main Event.
