WWE Mentions AEW's Jack Perry on Raw

As a long-time wrestling fan and follower of WWE, I’ve seen my fair share of intense rivalries and dramatic moments. But the ongoing feud between Drew McIntyre and CM Punk has really stood out to me. The recent segment on Raw, featuring the heated exchange between the two and Seth Rollins as special guest referee, brought back memories of the dark moment in AEW history when Jack Perry (real name Nick Comoroto) and Punk had their infamous altercation at All In.

At the start of WWE Raw, Drew McIntyre, CM Punk, and Seth Rollins as special referee had a contentious exchange prior to their match at SummerSlam. As “The Scottish Warrior” approached the ring, Michael Cole hinted at McIntyre bringing up old issues between Punk and someone from his past. This was an allusion to McIntyre sharing images on social media with Jack Perry, an AEW star, who had a highly publicized feud with Punk last summer. Although unnamed, it was implicitly understood whom Cole was referring to.

At AEW All In, an infamous backstage argument between Perry and Punk is frequently discussed as a pivotal moment with ominous undertones for AEW. However, neither Perry nor Punk have avoided addressing this incident. As part of their villainous personas, the Young Bucks publicly showed footage leading up to Punk’s bout against Samoa Joe. Today, Perry is allied with Team Elite, and some wrestlers believe that this confrontation played a significant role in solidifying Perry’s character. Beforehand, he had faced challenges in establishing a clear identity within AEW. During his suspension, the time away permitted him to embrace his role as a heel and make his debut in Japan, where fans gave him a warm reception.

McIntyre and Punk have been feuding since the injury Punk sustained at the Royal Rumble event. McIntyre, wearing a kilt, is determined to be the one to defeat Punk, whom he perceives as a danger to the company. Their disputes have escalated from physical altercals in the backstage area to heated verbal exchanges during wrestling matches. Additionally, McIntyre stole Punk’s bracelet, along with AJ Mendez (formerly WWE’s AJ Lee) and their dog Larry’s names inscribed on it. Rollins, on the other hand, isn’t so much focused on settling scores as he is willing to engage in fights if necessary. Punk prevented Rollins from regaining the title at Money in the Bank, which has led to Rollins seeking revenge ever since.

Rollins boldly declared during his promo tonight that he has ultimate control over the situation, stating to the two men in the ring, “You’ll listen to every word I say. I make the decisions. I’m in charge. I’m the authority.” He also warned them not to underestimate him, quipping, “I’m a vindictive fellow and I’ll knock your heads to the ground if you provoke me.” During McIntyre’s turn at the microphone, tensions rose between the two but, as previously announced last week, any physical contact prior to the bell ringing at SummerSlam would result in the match being canceled.
