As a die-hard WWE NXT fan with over two decades of wrestling fandom under my belt, I can confidently say that this brand’s evolution is nothing short of breathtaking. From its humble beginnings as a competition series to its current status as a third brand alongside Raw and SmackDown, it has been an absolute joy to witness the metamorphosis of WWE NXT.
WWE NXT keeps growing stronger. Originally debuting in 2010 as a series for training new talents, WWE NXT spent some time on SyFy and WWE’s website before undergoing significant changes led by WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque, transforming it into WWE’s developmental territory. WWE NXT was officially rebooted on the WWE Network in February 2014, broadcasting a weekly hour-long show and quarterly NXT Takeover events. This success led WWE to treat WWE NXT as a third brand, similar to WWE Monday Night Raw and WWE SmackDown, and transfer the program to cable television. Since fall 2019, WWE NXT has been airing live on USA Network and hasn’t slowed down since then.
Over the course of its transformations, the WWE NXT brand has undergone changes in its appearance to keep up. During its competition series phase, it boasted a logo with light yellow and white colors and stacked “NXT” letters. However, when it moved to Full Sail University, it adopted a black and gold design.
WWE NXT Will Have New Look Come The CW Premiere
As WWE NXT is set to move yet again, this time onto The CW network, it seems a fresh appearance might be on the horizon.
In a conversation with the Chicago Tribune, WWE’s Senior Vice President for Talent Development and Creative, Shawn Michaels, shared that the upcoming version of WWE NXT on The CW will feature a revamped appearance and physique.
“Certainly we want to make a big splash on the CW Network. We’ll have some big changes, but I think more of that will be from a look and physical standpoint,” Michaels said. “We will still be what NXT is, which is bringing some of the most talented, young, diverse athletes in all of the nation, and developing them into the WWE superstars of tomorrow. The hunger, the passion that’s always been the core value of NXT is always going to be there. But certainly we’ll try to put on some pretty cool bells and whistles for The CW launch on October 1st.”
The WWE NXT has now solidified its visual identity, shifting from the heavily criticized “NXT 2.0” paint splatter style under the Vince McMahon regime, to a more refined white and gold aesthetic. Although WWE abandoned all aspects of the 2.0 style in Fall 2022, some rainbow tones persist in the championship belts’ plating. It’s uncertain at this point how extensively the new look for WWE NXT on The CW will influence the brand, whether it’s just a redesigned logo or also new stages, graphics, and more; however, it’s likely that updated title belts are in the pipeline.
WWE NXT premieres on The CW on Tuesday, October 1st at 8 PM ET.
