The Wild Samoans were more than just wrestlers; they were legends, icons, and role models for countless fans around the world.
As a lifelong WWE fan who has grown up watching the Wild Samoans and admiring their incredible tag team skills, I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Afa Anoa’i at the age of 80. Having followed the careers of both Afa and his brother Sika for many years, it is clear that they left an indelible mark on professional wrestling and will be sorely missed by fans everywhere.

For several months now, I’ve been mentally preparing myself for the possibility of saying farewell to my father. It started in January when he suffered two heart attacks. Then, I thought our time together might end in March when he fell and fractured his spine in two places, requiring major surgery. The same went for his heart valve replacement surgery. His second back operation had me bracing myself again. And more recently, the news of Uncle Sika’s passing made me anticipate that I would have to bid him goodbye soon as well.
For the past month, I’ve been readying myself to bid farewell to my beloved father, as his health deteriorated and he was placed under hospice care, becoming weaker and more delicate by the day. However, I now understand that I will never have to say goodbye, for a significant piece of him will forever remain within me. Dad, I love you. This isn’t goodbye; instead, it marks the end of your earthly journey. My affection for you will always persist. You shall be eternally cherished, celebrated, missed, and revered. The most valiant man I’ve ever known. The final three rounds inevitably come to us all, yet you held out as long as anyone ever has. You’ve shown more resilience than anyone else. Forevermore, you remain our uncontested hero. My love for you knows no bounds.
