WWE Raw: Joe Tessitore Believes He "Wasn't Great" in Commentary Debut

As a lifelong WWE fan who has vividly remember skipping school just to catch a glimpse of Big John Studd, I was absolutely thrilled to see Joe Tessitore stepping into the commentary booth for Monday Night Raw. His passion and enthusiasm were palpable during his debut, and it brought me back to my childhood days when I was rooting against the faces to cheer on Paul Orndorff!

On the latest episode of WWE Monday Night Raw, a new voice could be heard, as ESPN’s Joe Tessitore made his first appearance with WWE. He teamed up with color commentator and former WWE superstar Wade Barrett to call the action. Tessitore joined WWE over the summer and has been earmarked for future broadcast plans within the sports-entertainment giant. At present, he’s working on WWE Monday Night Raw, but it’s expected that he will move to WWE SmackDown in the future, where he will join Barrett and Corey Graves in a three-person booth. This transition is set to take place once WWE Monday Night Raw moves to Netflix and Pat McAfee returns to commentary duties.

Joe Tessitore Reflects on WWE Raw Debut

The red brand’s new voice believes he has room for improvement.

After the lights dimmed and the crowd dispersed following Monday Night Raw, I, Joe Tessitore, couldn’t help but reflect on my commentary debut. I honestly felt that I didn’t quite hit the mark with my performance. It was a tough act to follow, but I know there’s always room for improvement in this gaming world of sports entertainment.

Tessitore expressed, “I wasn’t at my best tonight, but I showed genuine enthusiasm tonight.” He continued, “Remember the child who skipped class in the 8th grade just to meet Big John Studd? That was the one rooting against the good guys for Paul Orndorff. Well, that passionate fan is who you saw tonight.”

In a rare move for WWE, they grandly welcomed Tessitore to his first show by having him speak directly to the Denver audience from within the ring. This level of attention given to a new commentator’s debut is quite unprecedented in recent years, as previous play-by-play announcers like Jimmy Smith and Adnan Virk were seamlessly integrated into their positions without much fanfare about the team transition.

Tessitore expressed his excitement as he spoke about the crowd, saying it was a wonderful welcome and brought out his inner child. He then shared how he gave away t-shirts and merchandise, spreading joy among the kids. From start to finish, he felt that the event was extraordinary and it was heartwarming to be part of it. Night one completed, he looks forward to many more such special evenings.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ll be back at my post next Monday, the 9th of September. That’s when the thrilling world of WWE Monday Night Raw comes alive on our TV screens again!
