WWE Raw Makes Long-Awaited Change to Presentation

As a seasoned gamer of wrestling entertainment spanning over two decades, I must say that the upcoming changes to Monday Night Raw have left me both excited and curious. A two-hour show? It has been a long time since we’ve seen that! The nostalgia is strong with this one, but I can’t help but wonder if WWE will still manage to keep my attention for those extra 60 minutes every week.

Starting in October, WWE plans to reduce the duration of Monday Night Raw’s weekly broadcast from three hours to two. This change, which has long been anticipated by fans, marks a return to a format that WWE hasn’t used since more than a decade ago. The adjustment will take place on October 7th and is expected to continue until December 30th of 2024, as stated by WWE. This change will hold until the final episode of WWE Raw in late December.

Previously announced, WWE is transitioning to streaming starting January next year. Specifically, “WWE Raw” will be exclusively available on Netflix. This significant 10-year contract raised many questions about the future of “Raw”, which were clarified during TKO’s first quarter earnings call in May. It was revealed that USA Network would continue to air “Raw” until fall, a decision that generated $25 million for the company. However, this isn’t the only adjustment in WWE’s presentation over the past year.

Besides enhancing visual elements such as camera angles and appearances, the TV show WWE SmackDown has returned to USA Network. This brings together both WWE Raw and WWE NXT, although this won’t last for long due to future changes involving the red brand and NXT moving to The CW. However, this week WWE is commemorating these significant alterations with “WWE Week”. These celebrations started on tonight’s episode of Monday Night Raw.

As we transition into the Netflix “Raw” era, the current champions holding exclusive titles under the red brand are Liv Morgan as Women’s World Champion, Bron Breakker as Intercontinental Champion, and Gunther as World Heavyweight Champion. However, these titles could soon be up for grabs as Morgan is set to face her arch-nemesis in a title match at “WWE Bad Blood”. Meanwhile, Sami Zayn has challenged Gunther for the title after coming to the aid of Bret Hart during an attack. The next challenger for Breakker’s title was determined through a fatal-four way match, and it turns out to be a beloved figure in the WWE Universe.

At this point, it’s unclear if WWE Raw will keep its two-hour format or switch back to a three-hour one when it moves to Netflix. Keep an eye out here on ComicBook for all the recent news and developments about the transition and WWE.
