WWE’s revived Saturday Night’s Main Event will go head-to-head with AEW All In.
In December, WWE and NBC debuted the first Saturday Night’s Main Event (SNME) under a multi-year agreement. This was the first SNME show in 15 years. The event, featuring Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens, attracted an average of 1,590,000 viewers and scored a 0.42 in the 18-49 demographic. This viewership is similar to that of WWE Monday Night Raw and SmackDown, which usually draw around 1.5 million viewers each. Remarkably, it achieved this rating on a Saturday night, competing against ESPN, the NBA Cup semi-final on ABC, and AEW Collision.
WWE Reveals Major Head-to-Head with AEW
The Peacock network has revealed the 2025 schedule for Saturday Night’s Main Event, causing a bit of a dilemma for wrestling enthusiasts. Notably, an upcoming event is scheduled for May 24, 2025, which coincides with Memorial Day weekend. This is usually when AEW hosts their major pay-per-view, Double or Nothing. Moreover, on July 12, 2025, there’s another Saturday Night’s Main Event set to air, falling on the same day as AEW All In. Both shows will be broadcast at 8 p.m. ET on Peacock and NBC.
The initial SNME event was labeled as a “scaled-down Pay-Per-View (PPV),” considering the caliber of matches. Chelsea Green claimed the first United States Championship, Gunther battled Finn Balor and Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Title, while Liv Morgan defeated IYO SKY. Facing off against as many as two of AEW’s main PPV events – one being their annual major event – demonstrates remarkable self-assuredness.
Previously, it was made clear that John Cena had around 30 matches scheduled this year before his retirement officially takes place. If they’re aiming for a quick boost in ratings, his return match on television is sure to draw crowds.
AEW All In isn’t just significant for AEW; it’s the first event held within the U.S. by the company since its inception. Previously, the inaugural two events took place at the legendary Wembley Stadium in London, England. The upcoming event is scheduled in Arlington, Texas, a state where wrestling legend Dustin Rhodes resides. Interestingly, Kevin Von Erich’s sons, Ross and Marshall, have recently announced that they’ve joined AEW and are the Six-Man Champions alongside Rhodes. It’s likely that they’ll be participating in this event as well.
The upcoming SmackDown Next in Line event is set for January 25th at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas. As we’re just a week away, it’s expected that the lineup will begin to solidify on both the red and blue WWE brands this week. Given Jey Uso’s prominence in promotional materials, it seems likely that he’ll be part of the action too.
