WWE SmackDown USA Premiere: New Logo, New Theme, Same Classic Bloodline

WWE SmackDown USA Premiere: New Logo, New Theme, Same Classic Bloodline

As a fan who’s been watching WWE since the Attitude Era, I can confidently say that the SmackDown premiere on USA Network was nothing short of spectacular! The Steel Cage match for the Undisputed WWE Championship kicked off the show with a bang, and the epic team-up between two of SmackDown’s biggest superstars left me on the edge of my seat.

Tonight, the fresh start for WWE SmackDown on USA Network began with a bang, featuring a Steel Cage match for the Undisputed WWE Championship as its opener and concluding with an extraordinary collaboration between two of SmackDown’s top stars. Before even stepping into the ring, WWE unveiled a revamped appearance for their blue brand, showcasing a new logo and popular theme music, not to mention the numerous guest appearances throughout the broadcast. As we close the book on this premiere episode, let’s delve into its highlights and share our thoughts on SmackDown’s reimagined era, starting with the show’s fresh visual identity.

A New Look SmackDown

WWE introduced a fresh, streamlined logo design that integrates all its elements with an ‘S’, however, the logo itself seems peculiar as it takes some time to recognize the letters forming “SmackDown”. Although the accompanying color scheme, backdrops, effects, and graphics are visually appealing on-screen and in images, the logo’s appearance could use a bit of refinement. The concept is admirable, but the legibility might need improvement.

Speaking of which, the graphics shared across social media are mind-blowing, and the background utilized for the logo is striking. The S on the microphones might not immediately remind you of WWE SmackDown, but I’ll eventually grow accustomed to it. Moving forward, while visual appeal is essential, it’s important to discuss another aspect – the music.

A New Sound

Instead of the traditional approach, WWE has opted for a fresh twist with their latest move – a collaborative theme song featuring heavyweights from Hip Hop and KPop. Megan Thee Stallion and RM (of BTS) have been chosen to set the stage for SmackDown, and while the initial vibe may seem dissimilar to the previous era, I quickly warmed up to it. Throughout the show, WWE interspersed the song at key moments and integrated new footage during the intro, effectively building excitement for the in-ring action. A slam dunk success!

Big Show Feel

In an effort to make this debut a memorable occasion, WWE went above and beyond by inviting a multitude of WWE legends and current stars to grace the show at different moments. Names like Rob Van Dam, Michael Hayes, Damian Priest, Bobby Roode, William Regal, Vickie Guerrero, Ron Simmons, Teddy Long, among others, made appearances throughout the event. Similarly, SmackDown lined up its heavy hitters for numerous showcases, featuring stars such as Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, Bayley, Tiffany Stratton, Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill, and The Bloodline.

To put it simply, The Bloodline has become a central theme throughout the WWE storyline, and it continues to captivate audiences regardless of its frequent appearance. The recent scene where Rhodes agreed to team up with Reigns was particularly engaging due to their exceptional performance in the ring, making it a standout moment on television. This dynamic duo has consistently delivered compelling storylines, and this is just another example.

Highs

  • Andrade vs Carmelo Hayes Round 5 Delivered once again.
  • LA Knight vs Andrade for the United States Championship is going to be a banger.
  • Nia Jax and Tiffany Stratton are gold together, even if they are building towards the inevitable split.

Lows

  • Seriously that logo just looks…weird. SmackSown has already become a thing for a reason.
  • Carmelo Hayes showcased his star power in this feud, but it did still end in a loss, which is unfortunate for a newer star still making an impression on the main roster audience
  • A major lack of Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill…I mean they did show up, but would have loved to see more of WWE’s Women’s Tag Team Champions in the mix for the premiere.
