WWE's AJ Styles Comments on Will Ospreay Using the Styles Clash on AEW Dynamite

As a dedicated fan of All Elite Wrestling (AEW), I’ve had the privilege of watching Will Ospreay’s electrifying career unfold before my very eyes. The recent 60-minute match between Ospreay and MJF during AEW Dynamite’s historic 250th episode was nothing short of a spectacle, with Ospreay paying homage to his influences by executing the Styles Clash on MJF.

In the significant 250th episode of AEW Dynamite this week, Will Ospreay met MJF for their initial encounter in a prolonged 60-minute bout. Known for recognizing those who came before him, during one exchange near the ropes, Ospreay performed the Styles Clash on the previous AEW World Champion, MJF. This wasn’t the first time he had utilized this move; he frequently employed it in AEW, Japan, and on the indies. The instant execution of the Styles Clash ignited heated discussions online as some fans considered it an unauthorized appropriation by Ospreay. Contrarily, AJ Styles himself clarified the situation via social media later that day.

Styles acknowledged that in wrestling, it’s common for people to borrow each other’s moves. He doesn’t see it as a problem, though, and expressed this perspective by saying, “Why should I be irritated when someone else performs my move? We all do it. It’s part of wrestling! To me, it simply demonstrates appreciation.”

In an interview with ComicBook in May, Ospreay expressed his surprise and appreciation. “His praise left me utterly astonished,” he shared. “It’s incredibly meaningful to me that such a renowned figure would take the time out of his day for a conversation. He didn’t have to go beyond a casual Twitter message. The fact that my idol, someone I continue to regard as my hero, reached out to me in Japan for a chat and shared some guidance remains a significant moment in my life.”

Despite losing the International Championship to MJF at the last possible moment during AEW’s All Out event, sparking controversy among fans, there’s still ample opportunity for Ospreay to initiate his next feud as AEW All In London is just around the corner. Potential opponents include MJF once more, a multiple-person confrontation, or even the debut of an ex-WWE wrestler with whom he shares an intriguing past. AEW President Tony Khan has consistently acknowledged and valued Ospreay’s abilities, ensuring fans that his standing within the company remains secure.
