WWE’s Carmelo Hayes Calls Out John Cena

WWE's Carmelo Hayes Calls Out John Cena

As a lifelong wrestling enthusiast with memories of watching John Cena’s rise to fame etched deep within my soul, I must admit that the prospect of Carmelo Hayes facing off against The Champ has me positively buzzing!

In the year 2025, John Cena’s professional wrestling career comes to an end. This closure takes place within the WWE, where his journey began more than two decades ago. Throughout this time, fans have been unwavering in their support for him. Since his recent announcement, numerous WWE and non-WWE wrestlers have expressed interest in battling Cena one-on-one. Cena has stated that he is open to facing anyone and everyone, and the former NXT Champion, Carmelo Hayes, believes he will be among those selected.

During an interview at the Bash in Berlin press event, Hayes was queried about his future plans. Instead of speculating, he expressed to Instinct Culture that he’s primed to face John Cena, a potential opponent that Cena has hinted at. He stated, “I won’t make predictions, but I’m going to challenge someone because this seems like the ideal moment. You know, John Cena is on his farewell tour. He’s made it clear he wants competition. I think, honestly, I’m one of the first in line to step up and take that challenge. So, John, I’m just letting you know, just a friendly heads-up. Your time has passed, and mine has come.” (Credit: Fightful)

For several months now, Hayes has been part of the SmackDown lineup, establishing himself as a formidable competitor against heavyweights like Ilja Dragunov, Randy Orton, LA Knight, and Cody Rhodes. His impressive stint began after being drafted from NXT. This year, he showcased his skills in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match, displaying an extraordinary performance alongside some of WWE’s top stars. At present, Hayes is engaged in a rivalry with Andrade, who holds the title of WWE Speed Champion.

Since 2018, Cena has mainly stayed away from wrestling, making only occasional appearances annually. He’s been busy in Hollywood, working on movies like DC’s Peacemaker, Fast and Furious franchise, and recently Prime Video’s Jackpot! with Aquafina. In 2023, he had a total of eight matches, the last one being against Solo Sikoa at WWE Crown Jewel in November. He didn’t enter a ring again until this year’s WrestleMania season, partnering with Awesome Truth against Judgment Day on WWE Raw.
