WWE’s CM Punk Addresses AEW Releasing All In Backstage Altercation Footage

WWE's CM Punk Addresses AEW Releasing All In Backstage Altercation Footage

As a long-time fan who’s seen more than my fair share of wrestling drama unfold, I can’t help but admire CM Punk‘s stoic response to AEW airing that footage from All In. With his extensive experience in the ring and the UFC octagon, he’s no stranger to the sordid underbelly of competitive sports.

There was a lot of debate regarding AEW’s decision to air the footage of the altercation at All In between CM Punk and Jack Perry earlier this year, but one person who hadn’t weighed in on the footage being revealed is CM Punk. The footage did get a reaction after its reveal, though it also pretty much verified Punk’s earlier description of what took place. In an interview with Jimmy Traina’s SI Media podcast, Punk was asked how he felt about AEW showing the footage, and while Punk did feel a way about it, he ultimately didn’t really see the point, as there was nothing gained for AEW by showing it and no effect on him after it was shown. He did feel that being a top draw in two companies was pretty wild though (via Public Enemies Podcast).

Doesn’t Help or Hurt

When questioned about the footage, Punk referred to his current adversary, Drew McIntyre, as a point of comparison. He essentially stated, “It’s like I have to face Drew McIntyre, right? He’s this unpleasant character I don’t want in my life. However, this is the world of fighting. It’s all about trash talk, just like UFC fights. You see these guys verbally attacking each other, having heated press conferences, getting personal, and it’s just like, I don’t particularly appreciate that vibe, but the reward is I get to step into a ring and I get to inflict damage, break noses, knock out teeth, make Drew cry, and do whatever else I imagine doing to him.”

As a fan, I couldn’t help but open up about my immediate response to the unveiling of that footage. It struck me as quite unpleasant at first, but then I thought to myself, revealing that footage won’t benefit them or harm me, so I just shrugged it off. Being a top contender in two major companies? That’s downright mind-blowing, almost like thanking the universe for this incredible opportunity!

Relevant Footage

When inquired about disclosing the video, AEW President Tony Khan stated he thought it was crucial for The Young Bucks to clarify why the footage mattered. Later, The Young Bucks shared the video that depicted an argument between Perry and Punk, leading to Perry’s suspension from AEW and Punk’s employment being terminated.

As a long-time wrestling enthusiast who has followed the career of The Young Bucks for years, I am eagerly anticipating their explanation for why this footage is relevant to the upcoming AEW Dynasty event on April 21st. With their previous encounter against FTR being one of the most highly anticipated and well-attended matches in wrestling history, it’s clear that the stakes are high. The Young Bucks have always been masters of storytelling within the ring, and I am confident that they will provide valuable context to help set up the finals of the World Tag Team Championship tournament. I can’t wait to see how this historic rivalry unfolds!
