As a seasoned gamer of the WWE ring, I’ve seen my fair share of battles and twists, but this latest development between Cody Rhodes and Solo Sikoa has me hooked like never before! It’s not often that we get to witness a Steel Cage match on SmackDown, especially with the looming Bad Blood event just around the corner.
As a die-hard fan, I’m ecstatic about how Cody Rhodes triumphantly safeguarded his Undisputed WWE Championship at Bash in Berlin, vanquishing my old buddy Kevin Owens to preserve my title. However, the joy was short-lived as Solo Sikoa from The Bloodline made it crystal clear that he intended to claim whoever won, and true to his word, tonight Sikoa stirred up trouble on SmackDown, aiming for a brawl with Rhodes. The chaos didn’t go unnoticed by SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis, who swiftly scheduled a Championship match between Sikoa and Rhodes for next week. But here’s the twist – Aldis announced that this wouldn’t be just any ordinary match; it would be a Steel Cage match to keep The Bloodline at bay!
A Familiar Challenger
In the wrestling ring, Sikoa confronted Rhodes, with The Bloodline looking on from the sidelines. The crowd voiced their opinion about the situation. Unphased, Sikoa didn’t expect Rhodes to sow discord among The Bloodline. It appeared to be successful, at least temporarily, but Sikoa quickly put a stop to it and challenged Rhodes for the match right then and there.
It’s clear that he intended to convey this: The Bloodline planned to assault Rhodes in one swift move, and Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, and Jacob Fatu made their way onto the ring apron before jumping into the ring. With Rhodes being vastly outmatched, it seemed like a full-blown fight was imminent. However, DIY and The Street Profits appeared to support Rhodes, suggesting that a chaotic melee could erupt any moment.
Nick Aldis, known as Geneal Manger, informed everyone that if they engaged in fighting, there would be fines and suspensions. He walked towards the ring and announced that the main event would provide them ample opportunity to damage each other. However, he took a moment to speak directly to Rhodes. Aldis expressed that the “outnumbered” situation was becoming repetitive and detrimental to business. Therefore, he proposed a solution beneficial for everyone. Next week, Solo Sikoa will battle Cody Rhodes for the Championship… inside a steel cage.
SmackDown on USA
Next week, Rhodes and Sikoa will go head-to-head in a Steel Cage match, an unexpected turn of events given that Bad Blood is approaching swiftly. It’s plausible that this title fight could have been held there instead. Moreover, it’s possible that The Bloodline manages to infiltrate the cage, as other teams have done so before. If they do, Rhodes might find himself outnumbered and overpowered by the entire faction by the end of the night.
Let’s keep an eye on future events, but rest assured, a Steel Cage match on SmackDown is always significant. This becomes even more exciting since next week’s SmackDown marks its premiere on USA Network. Feel free to chat about wrestling with me on Threads and Twitter @mattaguilarcb!
