WWE's Cody Rhodes Retains Undisputed Title, Roman Reigns vs Jacob Fatu Teased in SmackDown Opener

As a lifelong WWE enthusiast who’s seen more than a few steel cage matches, I can confidently say that last night’s SmackDown opener was nothing short of electrifying! The tension between Rhodes and the Bloodline has been building for weeks, and it finally reached its boiling point in this epic title showdown.

As a passionate gamer, I kicked off my evening by tuning into the electrifying premiere of WWE SmackDown on USA Network. The night got rolling with an epic clash for the Undisputed WWE Championship! After weeks of tension between Rhodes and the new Bloodline, Sikoa issued a challenge to Rhodes for a Title match, which Rhodes accepted. However, Nick Aldis added a twist – turning it into a Steel Cage match to keep the rest of the Bloodline at bay. The match that ensued was nothing short of breathtaking and brutal, with Rhodes even executing a massive splash from the top of the cage! Although Rhodes emerged victorious and held onto his Title, The Bloodline swarmed the ring post-match to take down the Champ. This led to Roman Reigns making an appearance, challenging the entire group. We got a tantalizing glimpse of Reigns vs Jacob Fatu, but Sikoa managed to prevent that showdown for now. Fortunately, Rhodes jumped in to help Reigns even the odds and clear out The Bloodline!

First Blood

In their intense battle, Rhodes and Sikoa exchanged powerful blows before Rhodes started landing some strategic dropkicks to gain an advantage. However, the fight became increasingly fierce when they both brutally rammed each other into the cold, unforgiving steel cage walls. Sikoa seized Rhodes and slammed him forcefully against the cage wall not once, but twice, causing a painful impact on Rhodes’ head each time. Cornered, Rhodes was hit with a powerful flying headbutt by Sikoa, who was using the ropes for leverage as the Champ struggled to break free.

The second one didn’t go as well though, missing Rhodes and allowing the Champ to start climbing up the cage. Sikoa caught his foot and brought him down, and Rhodes was busted open shortly after. Sikoa looked to take advantage of this by slamming Rhodes into the side of the cage, and he threw Rhodes into the other side shortly after. Rhodes would rally though, hitting a Cody Cutter from up high, and then he started climbing up the cage again. Sikoa caught him once more and yanked him down, and another headbutt knocked the Champ to the mat.

Later on, Sikoa ascended the enclosure, followed by Rhodes who quickly joined him. They eventually convened atop the cage. Rhodes delivered a powerful slam to Sikoa’s head on the top of the structure, causing him to lose his footing slightly, but Sikoa retaliated by sending Rhodes over the edge and down to the mat with an impressive superplex.

Rhodes Won’t Stay Down

In the wrestling match, Sikoa attempted to hold down Rhodes, but Rhodes managed to kick free. Sikoa next aimed to dash towards an open exit, yet Rhodes snatched his leg. Swiftly turning, Sikoa delivered a spinning attack and followed up with another one, only for Rhodes to keep his shoulder raised. Sikoa tried the Samoan Spike next, but Rhodes countered it, retaliating with a forearm and subsequently a disaster kick. Rhodes then struck a Cody Cutter and attempted a cover, yet Sikoa barely managed to kick out at two.

In their wrestling match, Rhodes hobbled a bit before diving into a massive tackle and a Samoan drop by Sikoa. Sikoa leaped high and performed a diving splash, but Rhodes miraculously survived with a kickout at 2. Sikoa collided with Rhodes in the corner, but Rhodes spotted an exit and attempted to crawl out. Sikoa managed to stop him, but Rhodes retaliated with a Cross Rhodes and tried for a pin, again only getting a kickout of 2 from Sikoa. Instead of descending, Rhodes decided to climb the cage all the way to its peak. In an astonishing move, he executed the Lateral Press from the top of the cage onto Sikoa, but even this couldn’t keep Sikoa down for the count.

The OTC Returns

As I was about to step out through the open door, Sikoa swiftly shut it on me. In an instant, we clashed with the Samoan Spike being his move of choice, but I countered with a Cross Rhodes and secured the pin, holding onto my Undisputed WWE Championship. The Bloodline charged into the ring, and just as they were about to overwhelm me, Sikoa unleashed a Samoan Spike on the champion. Tonga Loa, Tama Tonga, and Jacob Fatu followed suit, relentlessly attacking me with no rescue in sight. Then, out of nowhere, Roman Reigns’ music boomed, and Fatu paused mid-air, poised to deliver a massive blow – but that’s when the champion’s theme song played.

Initially, Reigns emerged and stepped into the ring, subsequently closing the entrance door. A confrontation ensued between Reigns and Tonga, along with Loa, which ended with both of them being hurled against the cage wall by Reigns. Suddenly, Sikoa appeared from ambush and struck Reigns with a Superman Punch. As Sikoa staggered to his feet, Reigns was energized and prepared for a spear, but swift action from Fatu prevented Sikoa from staying in the ring. Eager fans had been anticipating a face-off between Reigns and Fatu ever since Fatu’s WWE debut, but Sikoa thwarted that opportunity by dragging Fatu out of the ring. Loa and Tonga retaliated against Reigns, yet Rhodes quickly intervened and sent Loa crashing into the cage, while Tonga was met with a Cross Rhodes. Subsequently, Reigns delivered a Spear to Loa. This incident prompted an unexpected alliance between Rhodes and Reigns as Sikoa taunted Reigns.
