At the upcoming event Bash in Berlin, the undefeated WWE Championship will be at stake, as Cody Rhodes squares off against his longtime friend Kevin Owens. Earlier tonight, they had their final meeting before their highly anticipated match, during which two significant points emerged from their discussion. Firstly, there were concerns about Cody Rhodes’ health, with Owens repeatedly mentioning a knee injury. Rhodes, however, dismissed this claim, asserting that he was in perfect condition, 100%. Secondly, speculation about Owens potentially betraying Rhodes was raised, especially after the footage from SmackDown last week. Although Owens didn’t explicitly deny these rumors, his response was not as definitive as one might expect. To wrap things up, Owens said something that wasn’t audible on the microphones, and we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to find out what transpired.
A Possible Turn
Initially, Rhodes tackled the video from last week where Owens was seen brandishing the Title and hinting at an impending assault. Rhodes confronted Owens about his history, and posed a direct question to him. “The incident that transpired is what made me hesitant,” Rhodes stated. “You gave me this Title, but if I hadn’t reacted when I did, it appeared to many as though you were about to strike me from behind with it.” Rhodes isn’t accusing Owens, but given his past actions, he’s merely inquiring.
In a different phrasing, Owens expressed, “I find it hard to believe you want to discuss this topic, honestly. Given our past discussions, the evidence and history, as I mentioned last week, most of those individuals deserved their fate. However, there’s an exception – Kofi. I apologize for any misunderstanding.” He added, “Given my history with your father, it would be unimaginable for me to do anything harmful towards you.”
A Tainted Reign
Later, Owens mentioned Rhodes’ knee to him, stating he wasn’t fully fit. Rhodes seemed puzzled as to why it kept coming up, and forcefully tapped the mat with his foot to demonstrate its sound health. However, Owens revealed that the reason for discussing the knee was not what Rhodes thought. Owens reminisced about his Universal Championship reign being compromised due to someone’s less-than-optimal condition. He asserted that he constantly heard whispers that he didn’t truly deserve that victory and only won because of Triple H.
In a recent conversation, Owens expressed his desire to avoid a repeat of past events when he emerges victorious at Bash in Berlin. He also hinted that some might question his win based on Rhodes’ knee injury. However, Rhodes dismissed this notion, clarifying that Owens was referring to “when he wins” rather than “if he wins”. Rhodes further stated his intention to defend his title at Bash in Berlin and posed a question to Owens about their friendship post-match. In response, Owens angrily discarded the microphone before whispering something into Rhodes’ ear that couldn’t be heard by the audience.
