WWE's Dakota Kai Sparks Hope For a Wrestling Return

As a die-hard WWE fan who has witnessed the rollercoaster ride that is Dakota Kai‘s career, I can’t help but feel a mix of admiration and concern for her resilience. Here’s a woman who has fought her way back from injuries not once, but twice, and each time she comes back stronger than before. Her latest Instagram story cryptically saying “see you soon” has us all on the edge of our seats, hoping that she’ll be back in the ring sooner rather than later.

In the early days of August, professional wrestler Dakota Kai, a member of Damage CTRL, sustained an unfortunate injury during a backstage event on WWE Raw. The incident led to the group being attacked, leaving Kai sidelined since then. Curious fans started speculating about the severity of her injuries. Later, it was revealed that she required surgery for a torn meniscus, a procedure that typically takes 8-10 weeks to recover from. Although she’s been absent from television and hasn’t shared much about her condition, Kai posted a series of cryptic Instagram stories consisting of three videos hinting at a return with the phrase “see you soon.

If Kai indeed resumes fighting shortly as expected, her recovery would significantly expedite well ahead of schedule. However, if she’s permitted to travel, they might aim to have her appear on TV immediately upon her physical readiness. The most unfortunate aspect of Kai’s case is that she had just returned from a previous knee injury in February. Yet, when she makes her comeback, there will be an inherent narrative between Kai, Damage CTRL, and PFC as they will likely seek retribution for injuring their fellow group member.

Over the last few weeks of Raw, Damage CTRL hasn’t been on air, but before their hiatus, they were embroiled in a dispute with The Unholy Union (Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn), as well as Pure Fusion Collective (Shayna Baszler, Sonya Deville, and Zoey Stark). Recently, the team has seen half its members go down due to injuries within the past few months. Asuka is currently off-screen while she recovers from injuries she decided to address during the summer.

Kai started her journey with WWE in 2017, swiftly posing a danger on the NXT women’s roster. She participated in the inaugural women’s WarGames match in 2019 and followed it up with her first Royal Rumble shortly after. Throughout her time in NXT, she won her initial title within the WWE brand, being the Women’s Tag Team Champion. Later, she was let go and rehired a few months later, teaming up with Bayley and IYO SKY to create Damage CTRL. Recently, she has shown a desire to participate in more individual matches.

ComicBook continues to wish Kai the best in her recovery. Stay tuned for updates.
