WWE's Ethan Page Cheats to Take Down TNA's Joe Hendry at NXT No Mercy

As a seasoned WWE NXT fan with over two decades of wrestling fandom under my belt, I must say that NXT No Mercy was an exhilarating rollercoaster ride! The match between Ethan Page and Joe Hendry was nothing short of spectacular – the tension, the drama, and the unexpected twist made for a gripping spectacle.

At WWE NXT’s No Mercy event, there were multiple chances for Title victories, with five Title matches taking place throughout the evening. The night culminated in a fight over NXT’s most cherished trophy, where Ethan Page defended his Title against TNA star Joe Hendry. Over the past few weeks, tension has built between these two competitors, and Page was eager to ensure that Hendry would not return to TNA. Trick Williams served as the special referee, despite his personal feelings, and he officiated the match impartially as promised. However, unnoticed by Williams, Page delivered a low blow to Hendry, which helped him secure the win and retain his NXT Championship.

NXT Believes in Hendry

Initially, the focus leaned towards Williams and his officiating skills rather than Page’s adversary. However, Williams was resolute on maintaining fairness throughout the match. Meanwhile, Henry continuously thwarted Page’s attempts to dominate, and eventually Hendry gained momentum by flooring the Champion before hoisting him high for what felt like an eternity before executing the vertical suplex.

Afterward, Henry attempted to roll up Champ, but Page managed to kick out. Subsequently, Page delivered some forceful blows to hinder Henry’s advancement. It was evident that Page was growing agitated due to the audience’s enthusiasm for Hendry. Determined to silence the crowd, Page aimed for a superplex near the top rope. At first, Henry managed to resist, but eventually, Page executed a powerslam and pinned Hendry, only for Hendry to kick out.

The page remained visibly irritated by the spectators, and matters worsened as Hendry delivered a suplex from the top rope onto the page. Leaping over the ropes, Hendry sent the champion crashing to the ground below. In response, Page retaliated with an Ego’s Edge against the ring barrier, narrowly saving Hendry from being counted out. However, Hendry managed to get back in at 9.5 seconds before the count was over. Hendry then executed another Ego’s Edge on the champ and attempted a pin, but the champ miraculously kicked out.

The Unfortunate Right Call

Hendry slammed Page down and went for another cover, but the Champ stayed alive with another kick-out. A slugfest broke out and then Hendry hit a big clothesline and slam before getting the crowd to chant along. Henry hit the Standing Ovation and went for the cover, but as the 3 count hit, Williams pointed out that Page’s foot was underneath the bottom rope.

Later on, Page clashed with Hendry, causing Williams to exit the ring. Page forcefully pushed Hendry to the ground for a pin attempt. This action led another referee to rush in, but they only managed to count up to 2 before time expired, infuriating Page. Page successfully retained his NXT Championship after pinning Hendry down on it. However, Williams intervened and stopped the match by catching the referee’s hand at a crucial moment. Regrettably, Williams was not facing Page when he delivered an unsportsmanlike blow to Hendry. In the end, Pete Dunne stormed in and assaulted Williams, throwing him to the floor and bringing the event to a close.
