WWE’s LA Knight Wins First United States Title Defense on SmackDown

WWE's LA Knight Wins First United States Title Defense on SmackDown

As a lifelong WWE enthusiast who has attended more live events than I care to count, I must say that LA Knight’s victory over Santos Escobar for the United States Championship was nothing short of electrifying! The strategic advantage Escobar gained with his allies’ pre-match attack added an extra layer of intensity that made this match a true testament to Knight’s resilience and skill.

LA Knight defeated Logan Paul to become the new WWE United States Champion at SummerSlam, and tonight’s episode of SmackDown would put him to the test with his first Title defense. After a showdown during last weeks SmackDown, Santos Escobar won the right to challenge Knight, and he wasn’t about to let it fly past him, as Escobar had his Legado del Fantasma allies attack Knight before the bell even rang. Knight would get things back on track, in part because they got thrown out, and after a number of close-calls, Knight emerged with the win and the first Championship defense under his belt.

Unfair Advantage

Initially, Escobar gained an advantage as Angel Garza and Humberto Carillo attacked Knight before the match even started, leaving him disoriented. Although these three were eventually disqualified (along with Elektra Lopez), the impact on the US Champion was substantial. From that point, Escobar maintained control, but Knight managed to counterattack outside the ring and clear off the commentary table, demonstrating his determination and resilience.

In a swift turn of events, Escobar aimed to reenter the arena, only for Knight to grab him and shove him against the table. However, Escobar retaliated by kicking Knight forcefully, causing him to crash headfirst into the commentator’s table. Escobar performed a frog splash on Knight instantly, followed by a pin attempt, but Knight miraculously managed to keep himself from being pinned.

A Fair Fight

In a swift turn of events, Escobar stepped hard on Knight’s hand, followed by a series of blows in the corner against the Champion. However, Knight retaliated with a powerful clothesline. He delivered another clothesline as Escobar charged, then executed the BFT and stamped on the challenger in the corner.

In this wrestling match, Knight was struck by a kick from Escobar, who subsequently fell after being tackled by Knight in an attempt to pin him. However, Escobar managed to kick out. Escobar then attacked with a back elbow strike and a kick that forced the Champion to stumble towards the corner. As Escobar lifted Knight high up, he was shoved down to the mat, enabling Knight to perform an elbow drop. Following this, Knight executed a Big Forearm Thrust (BFT) and attempted another pin, securing the victory and retaining his United States Championship.
