As a longtime fantasy enthusiast and avid WWE fan, I can’t help but feel thrilled by Lyra Valkyria’s recent achievements and her love for the Lord of the Rings franchise. Her passion for Beren and Luthien is contagious, and it’s heartwarming to see someone so invested in such a timeless all-time love story.
In an exciting development, Lyra Valkyria has just stepped onto the WWE gaming scene for the first time, appearing in the Global Superstars pack of WWE 2K24. This is a significant achievement for any WWE Superstar. Fresh from her NXT comeback where she reunited with her former partner Tatum Paxley, Valkyria’s schedule has been quite packed lately as a Raw superstar. However, when she’s not battling opponents in the ring, there’s one series she enjoys revisiting – The Lord of the Rings. In an interview with ComicBook, they discussed her debut in WWE 2K24 and delved into her affection for The Rings of Power. When asked about her dream role within the franchise, Valkyria revealed a favorite among many devoted fans: the endearing couple Beren and Lúthien.
Nothing I Love More
Since The Rings of Power has progressed into its second season, we couldn’t help but inquire about her thoughts on the season thus far. However, Valkyria hasn’t had a chance to explore season 2 yet, but she can’t wait to do so and is equally thrilled for the upcoming animated prequel series, The Lord of the Rings: War of Rohirrim. When the topic of Lord of the Rings arose, Valkyria expressed, “There’s nothing I cherish more in life. It’s my everything. The Rings of Power looks amazing. I haven’t started season 2 yet, and there’s also the animated series on its way. There’s just so much to explore!
After inquiring if she might participate in the series, I asked whom she would prefer to portray. Her response took me back to the earliest days, recalling the legendary couple from lore – Beren and Luthien. “Absolutely, I’d love it,” Valkyria replied. “I’ve always admired the tale of Beren and Luthien as incredibly beautiful. Perhaps a character akin to them, who knows?
An All-Time Love Story
The tale of Beren and Luthien is mentioned multiple times within The Lord of the Rings, but it tends to emphasize unique qualities of Beren and Luthien rather than delving deeply into their passionate love story. To truly understand their narrative, one must read The Silmarillion, with further details provided in The History of Middle-earth. Both works delve deeper into the turbulent romance that transcends the mortal world.
In this tale, Thingol significantly underestimates his daughter, Luthien, as she repeatedly rescues Beren during his quest to acquire the Silmaril. Accompanied by a colossal hound named Huan, Luthien liberates Beren from Sauron’s grasp, lulls everyone into slumber so Beren can seize the Silmaril, heals Beren after he loses his hand to a werewolf, and ultimately confronts the deities to resurrect Beren upon his death at the hands of the werewolf. The price she pays for this heroism is her own immortality, yet they enjoy a lengthy and fruitful life together afterwards. This narrative not only warrants inclusion in a series but arguably demands its own series adaptation, which I sincerely hope will be realized soon. Furthermore, the story received additional attention in 2017’s “Beren and Luthien,” a work that highlights the transformations it has undergone over time.
