WWE's NXT CW Premiere Delivers Big Ratings

As a lifelong wrestling fan, I must say that the WWE NXT premiere on CW was a slam dunk! With my decades of watching wrestling under my belt (pun intended), I can confidently say that this was one of the most electrifying premieres I’ve ever seen.

On this week’s highly anticipated debut on The CW, WWE NXT launched a fresh era with impressive viewership numbers. In fact, the show attracted its largest audience in over a year, totaling 895,000 viewers, and even peaked at 965,000 from 8:15 to 8:30 PM. Compared to last week’s episode on the USA Network, this week’s show saw a significant increase of +44%. It also became The CW’s most-watched telecast in 2022 among adults aged 25-54 (406,000) and 18-49 (354,000).

The first episode significantly amplified The CW’s Tuesday programming schedule, recording an impressive 143% surge in total viewers, surpassing the average for CW’s Tuesday primetime season. This increase was also evident in major markets such as New York (WPIX-TV), Los Angeles (KTLA-TV), Dallas (KDAF-TV), and Detroit (WKBD-TV), outperforming last Tuesday’s prime-time programming.

A New Home

In simpler terms, Dennis Miller, President of The CW Network, expressed excitement about adding WWE to their sports collection as it aligns with their goal of providing year-round live sporting events. The WWE NXT, known for its vibrant young talent and unpredictable weekly shows, is a great match for The CW. The fervor and dedication of WWE fans are unprecedented, and The CW looks forward to expanding this audience as WWE NXT debuts on broadcast television for the first time. Nick Khan, President of WWE, also praised The CW’s recent advancements in live sports programming and is thrilled about the chance to broaden the reach of NXT by airing it on broadcast TV for the first time ever.
