As a seasoned gamer of the squared circle, I must say that the NXT Women’s Championship match between Roxanne Perez and Thea Hail was nothing short of a rollercoaster ride! The strategic back-and-forth submission gameplay was reminiscent of my old Street Fighter II sessions where I had to master Ryu’s Hadouken to survive.
In the final bout of Week 1 for WWE NXT’s Great American Bash, Roxanne Perez defended her NXT Women’s Championship against newcomer Thea Hail. Determined to prove that Perez had underestimated her abilities, Hail delivered a powerful performance. Earlier in the match, Perez inflicted damage on Hail’s arm, but this didn’t stop Hail from coming close to pinning Perez multiple times. Almost locking in the Kimura, Hail managed several near falls. Perez responded with her own submission, the crossface, leading to a series of submission exchanges between the two stars. As the match progressed, Hail had to revive her injured arm, but she found the strength to hoist Perez overhead and execute a massive slam before attempting a pin. Regrettably for Hail, Perez capitalized on the opportunity towards the end with a brutal combo, securing the win and keeping her Championship title.
Roxy Has a Plan
In the heat of competition, Hail attempted a friendly gesture but Perez swiftly rejected it, igniting the match instantly. These two titans exchanged close calls to victory and later, Hail aimed for the Kimura lock, but Perez cleverly dodged it and focused on Hail’s arm and shoulder instead. It was clear that Perez sought to inflict pain on the arm, yet Hail managed to deflect that aggression and counterattacked from the top rope. Afterward, Hail retaliated against the Champion by targeting her arm. However, Hail found herself struggling as Perez viciously attacked her arm, pulling it hard against the ropes before focusing relentlessly on it, striking it with her feet and slamming it into the turnbuckle.
I went for a hide-and-seek move behind the cover, but Hail managed to kick me away. Back to my original game plan, I grappled Hail’s arm towards the ropes and yanked it hard. Hail seemed to be hurting, and I seized the opportunity with a powerful suplex, aiming for a victory. Yet, Hail showed resilience and managed to kick out. Despite having a grip on her arm, she wriggled free just in time to avoid my stomp, even attempting to roll me up. My suplex was countered by Hail into a DDT, giving her some much-needed moments to recover her strength in her arm.
Hail got clocked with a punch to the face and then slapped by the Champ along with some taunting. Hail came back with a vicious set of strikes and two crossbodys followed by a slam. Hail then slammed the Champ down again and then went for the slam only to get locked in a crossface. Hail rolled to the bottom rope and broke the hold, and Perez then dove through the ropes and knocked Hail to the floor. Perez rolled Hail back in and confronted Chase U, only for Hail to knock the Champ down to the floor.
Close Calls
In the match, a blow struck from above sent Hail crashing into a body slam that pushed the Champion down for a cover attempt, but Perez managed to kick out. Perez retaliated by wrenching Hail’s arm away, causing discomfort, yet Hail responded with a near pin following a Pop Rocks maneuver. Subsequently, Hail attempted a Kimura Lock, only for Perez to counter it once more. The Kimura was applied but again Perez countered, this time seemingly holding the advantage. Remarkably, Hail found the strength to rise and hoist Perez for an impressive senton.
Hail hit the fallaway slam and pinned Perez but Perez kicked out at the last second. Perez then poked Hail in the face while the referee wasn’t looking, and that left the door open to get some hits in, but it backfired as Hail got out of the way and had the Champ run into the ring post. Hail then locked in the Kimura one more time, but Perez rolled out of the ring and slammed Hail into the steel steps. Perez threw Hail into the steel steps again and then rolled her in to lock in a crossface. Hail then got in a Kimura on the Champ, but Perez rolled through and countered into a crossface. Hail almost got to the bottom rope but Perez kicked the rope away and then hit Pop Rocks, getting the pin and the win. Perez is still your NXT Women’s Champion.
