As a gamer and a die-hard Marvel fan, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia when I reflect on the magical moments shared between Aaron Stanford (Pyro) and Ian McKellen (Magneto). Their on-screen bond was so palpable that it transcended the silver screen and seeped into our hearts.
In a conversation on the “Phase Zero” podcast, Aaron Stanford (who played Deadpool and Wolverine’s co-star) discussed his close work relationship with Ian McKellen. The Pyro actor opened up about forming a friendship with Magneto, sharing insights into their behind-the-scenes camaraderie. With McKellen being an esteemed figure in both film and theater, Stanford had always held him in high regard before even setting fire to his hands on set. However, he also emphasized the deep mental connection between their characters that significantly contributed to their real-life friendship development. As a relatively new performer, Stanford was keen to learn as much as possible from McKellen during their time together in this movie franchise.
In simpler terms, Stanford said that there wasn’t much debate about the relationship between Pyro and Magneto since it was evidently portrayed in the movie. They didn’t delve too deeply into it or over-analyze it. Instead, it was a natural aspect of the story, and he believes the film’s strength lies in its ambiguous nature.
In summary, the star shared that their relationship with Ian was distinct from other events. They were captivated by Ian’s performance in a movie version of Richard the III, which seemed to be set during a fictional World War II. This film left a lasting impression on them, and they watched it numerous times on VHS tapes. The star admired Ian’s talent and was thrilled when they were able to develop a friendship with him, as they found him to be funny, charming, and humble. Meeting and spending time with him personally was an exceptional experience for the star.
Could We See Pyro Again?
As a gamer, let me tell you, the intrigue of “Deadpool & Wolverine” lies in who shows up and who doesn’t! Magneto, played by an actor I admire, isn’t directly featured in this film. That’s a bummer since Stanford’s renegade mutant also meets his end in the movie. This got me wondering if we might catch a glimpse of Pyro again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we race towards “Avengers: Secret Wars”. Given the positive reception of “Deadpool & Wolverine”, it feels plausible that many of these characters could make an appearance in that epic crossover event.
Stanford pondered thoughtfully, “I’m honestly at a loss for an answer. The question could indicate the end, or it might not. Given the multiverse, there may be more versions of Pyro in store. It’s hard to say for certain! I adore this character; we’ve been together for quite a while. Starting my career with him was fantastic, and it’s rewarding to still be here with him. Of course, I’d like to see him continue, but who can predict the future?”
