It appears that a previously undisclosed edition of the ROG Ally has surfaced, carrying official Xbox branding. This upcoming handheld device is expected to be black, as suggested by images leaked from the FCC’s certification process, according to Eurogamer. Since these images are from an official source, they should be considered reliable, even though they might not provide the best view of the gadget. The leaked images show a distinct Xbox button on this device, which sets it apart from other versions of the ROG Ally. At this time, we’re unsure about the pricing and release date for these portable options. However, existing models of the ROG Ally retail between $649.99 to $799.99.
A comparable price might be achievable, although it’s uncertain due to the recent hikes in hardware prices for Xbox products. This could potentially be a challenging demand for many existing Xbox enthusiasts. Photos posted by user @94G8LA on X/Twitter (see below post for link) suggest what we might see when Microsoft officially unveils the devices. Although these images are slightly dirty and smudged, they do provide a glimpse into what’s to come. The new ROG Ally version sports an Xbox-like dedicated button on its left side and textured grips reminiscent of the current Xbox controller design.

For some time, it’s been speculated that Xbox has aimed to enter the portable gaming market. Last year, Jez Corden of Windows Central suggested that an Xbox handheld device might be unveiled in 2025. After these images surfaced, Corden confirmed that this is indeed “Project Kennan,” as he had mentioned more recently. Interestingly, only one of the devices shown in those images bears the Xbox branding, and that’s the black design. Corden speculates that the white design might be the ASUS ROG Ally 2, while the black model could be the officially branded Xbox device.
We can’t definitively predict the level of compatibility the upcoming handheld device will have with Xbox software at this point. The ROG Ally currently supports Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Play Anywhere titles, as previously confirmed. However, it seems unlikely that it will be fully compatible with other digital Xbox games until Microsoft releases their own developed handheld console, which is expected in 2027.
After these images have surfaced online, it’ll be intriguing to find out when Microsoft and ASUS might choose to formally announce their products. Just as with the early leak of Xbox Series S images, the company expedited the announcement. It’s speculative whether the same approach will be taken here, but only time will tell. Here’s hoping for a captivating unveiling that encourages Xbox enthusiasts to invest in the new product.
