It appears that a recent update from Microsoft has inadvertently led to a decrease in the quality of the Xbox controller. Fortunately, since this was not intentional, there’s hope that it can be rectified. Unfortunately, it’s uncertain if Microsoft has recognized the issue or is working on a solution at present. This leaves users of Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X potentially dealing with faulty controllers for some time.
After the latest software upgrade for Xbox, users have been experiencing problems with their controllers, particularly issues related to the control sticks and unusual behavior. Unlike regular drift issues that usually affect one stick at a time, this problem seems unrelated to mechanics as it affects both sticks concurrently. Specifically, the issue causes the controller to disregard movement on both the right and left sticks occasionally.
In a recent post, well-known Xbox community member Klobrille mentions experiencing occasional strange right and left joystick issues after the latest Xbox controller firmware update. He has tested this on various controllers, confirming it’s a software problem. Occasionally, movements with the joystick (either left or right) seem to be disregarded for some reason.
One glance at the post’s comments indicates that the issue isn’t just affecting one Xbox user; it seems to be a predicament that numerous other Xbox users are encountering as well.
1st comment: “At last, someone mentioned this issue I’ve been dealing with for roughly two weeks.”
2nd comment: “I have three controllers, each from various production times. I thought it might be firmware due to the timing. I’ve been playing simpler games that don’t require thumbsticks, and I noticed it in menus and on the home screen, where selections seem to jump around as if multiple inputs are being registered for directions.
Based on similar feedback, it appears that the problems with the Xbox controllers extend beyond just the sticks. The recent firmware update seems to have triggered multiple issues. For instance, some users have reported that their controllers suddenly turn off without warning. Furthermore, there have been complaints about button inputs not responding consistently.
It’s important to mention that although numerous Xbox users have reported problems with their controllers, many others have not encountered any issues, suggesting that these may be related to specific software glitches in the controller’s firmware.
It’s uncertain whether Microsoft is aware of the recent problems with the Xbox controller, as they haven’t made any comments on the subject yet. Should that change, we’ll promptly provide an update on the situation.
