As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia as Forza Horizon 4 is set to be delisted from the Xbox Store. This game was a gem during its time, and even though it was overshadowed by Sea of Thieves in 2018, it certainly had its moments.
24 hours remain for Xbox One gamers to grab an exclusive game that’s been part of the Xbox family since 2018. This title was released alongside popular games like Red Dead Redemption 2, God of War: Ragnarok, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Far Cry 5, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Monster Hunter: World, Dead Cells, Return of Obra Dinn, Fallout 76, Subnautica, Hitman 2, and Sea of Thieves. Once this window closes, it will be withdrawn from the market forever.
Initially, Sea of Thieves didn’t quite live up to its potential when launched in 2018, receiving a mix of positive and negative reviews and a lukewarm response from gamers. However, it has since grown into the beloved and successful game we know today. Interestingly, Forza Horizon 4 was the most notable Xbox release that year, but it will no longer be available for purchase starting December 15, 2021.
The initial announcement that the game would be taken off platforms like Xbox Store, Steam, and Xbox Game Pass occurred during the summer months. At that point, all additional content (DLC) for the game was removed from sale, but it continued to be available for purchase until December 15. Now, with just one day left before December 15, the game’s removal is imminent.
The reason for removing Forza Horizon 4 from digital stores is primarily due to licensing complications. Owners of the game can continue playing it normally, whether offline or online. However, those who do not currently own it will have no opportunity to purchase it digitally after December 15th, except perhaps second-hand physical copies which might be hard to find since the game is six years old and superseded by newer releases in the Forza series. On the other hand, brand new physical versions may still exist, but their availability is likely limited. In summary, after December 15th, there will be no digital purchase option for Forza Horizon 4.
It was announced that Forza Horizon 4 will no longer be available for sale on stores or Xbox Game Pass starting from December 15. However, if you already own the game and its add-ons, you can continue playing it as usual, with access to all offline, online, and multiplayer modes. Even physical copies bought after this date will function normally, allowing you to enjoy online features.
If you’re not already acquainted, Forza Horizon 4 is a popular racing game developed by Playground Games (based in the UK) and published by Xbox Game Studios. It’s actually the fourth game in the Forza Horizon series and the 11th overall entry in the Forza franchise. After its release, it was followed by direct sequels like Forza Horizon 5 (2021) and Forza Motorsport (2023).
As a gamer jumping back into an old favorite, I’m thrilled to find that this game from the Xbox One era is now fully compatible with both the Xbox Series X and S. Not only can I play it on these new systems, but it’s been specifically “tweaked” and enhanced for optimal performance on them.
