11 bit studios has revealed that the much-awaited strategy survival game, “The Alters“, which involves crafting clones of a man named Jan to survive and escape a progressively dangerous planet, will not meet its initial Q1 2025 release target. Instead, the developers have opted to delay the game’s launch to further perfect it, with a new, undetermined date in 2025 set for the improved version’s unveiling.
The Polish studio behind hit indie games This War of Mine and Frostpunk has introduced a fresh, science fiction-themed strategy and adventure game titled The Alters. In this game, you follow the tale of Jan Dolski, an employee of Ally Corp, who seems quite ordinary. However, his life decisions lead him to a perilous and isolated planet that is gradually becoming more hostile.
For him to carry on living, it’s crucial that he reflects upon the key decisions he made in his life that led him down different paths. Hopefully, adopting new qualities from these moments can prolong the lives of his team, Jans, and potentially help them find a way off this torturous planet they are trapped on.
As we add more copies of character Jan to our team, it’s possible that disagreements could occur since each replica has its unique motivations and aspirations, not all of which might align perfectly with the team’s collective interests.
11-bit Studios’ initial delay in releasing The Alters might have been a chain reaction triggered by the postponement of Frostpunk 2’s PC debut. As stated in their official communication, this new release schedule allows the team more time to polish the gameplay before distributing the game on both PC and consoles.
The announcement had the feel of a letter, as though it originated from the game’s company that had dispatched Jan on his tragic journey.
A vague release window for The Alters
The message shared indicates that extra effort is being put into fine-tuning mission details and ensuring all critical systems align with Ally Corp’s high standards, which might result in a slight delay. However, this pause offers an opportunity for integrating new features that will make the game more engaging and rewarding.
11-bit Studios has not provided a specific release date for The Alters yet, opting instead to give a vague 2025 window, noting that “ready soon” is not part of their language at Ally Corp. A definite release date will be announced “in due time.”
Despite the delay in The Alters’ release, 11-bit Studios has an exciting lineup of games scheduled for this year. The Polish studio continues to excel, both in self-developed titles and as an independent publisher. Gamers are eagerly awaiting the console launch of Frostpunk 2, the anticipated port of a previously released game, Death Howl, and Moonlighter 2, the sequel to the popular indie roguelike meets shopkeeper sim. Other games like Creatures of Ava, Indika, and The Thaumaturge have also been published under the 11-bit Studios label in recent months.
