Xbox Game Pass Shakeup: Is the Subscription Service on Its Last Life?

Some Xbox Game Pass subscribers who use the service from Microsoft feel displeased with its current state and have concerns about what lies ahead for the subscription service. Since its launch in 2017, Xbox Game Pass has undergone significant changes, with both improvements and drawbacks appearing along the way. While it’s true that many aspects of the service have improved, other areas seem to have deteriorated. Furthermore, the price increase experienced by the service on multiple occasions has heightened expectations, causing disappointment when those expectations are not fulfilled.

Lately, Xbox has informed us that several games will be leaving Xbox Game Pass in a fortnight, specifically on March 31st. Notably, there are quite a few notable games along with many others set to depart from the Xbox Game Pass library. To put it simply, some Xbox Game Pass subscribers, or at least a portion of them, seem rather displeased about this situation.

Just a heads-up! These games are leaving Xbox Game Pass soon: MLB The Show 24, Lil Gator Game, Hot Wheels Unleashed 2, Open Roads, Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami, Yakuza Kiwami 2, Yakuza Like a Dragon, The Lamplighter’s League, and Monster Hunter Rise. Make sure to play them before they’re gone!

The Yakuza series is no longer available on Xbox Game Pass due to these recent departures, whereas MLB The Show 24 remains unchanged, causing frustration among subscribers who have been playing it for the past few years. This change has left many disappointed as they were hoping for a new installment of the baseball game series.

One Reddit user commented that MLB The Show 24 is not coming, while Yakuza games have been removed, leaving more games departing than arriving each month. They also expressed their satisfaction with Avowed, but pointed out that if 10 games are being taken away from Game Pass Ultimate and only 4-5 new ones added, they’re unsure about it.

Another supporter voices similar worries: “I’m not great with numbers, but it seems we’re losing more quality content than we’re gaining each month. The games you mentioned, Lies of P, SpongeBob, and a few others (feeling like there might be something else) all disappeared this month. We added Avowed recently among a host of indie games. I’m not ready to pronounce Game Pass dead, but I believe it’s losing momentum, and this seems to have started around the time of the major price changes.

1) These remarks regarding the announcement aren’t standalone; they reflect a rising unease among subscribers about the subscription service quality, as it seems to heavily focus on Xbox Game Studios day-one releases. Notably, these exclusive games can only be accessed through the highest priced tier of the subscription service, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

“Wow, Game Pass seems to be falling apart.”

2. The third comment reads: “I feel like I’m hallucinating, or is it that they’re taking away more than adding in Game Pass?” Meanwhile, the fourth subscriber says: “It looks like Game Pass is collapsing.”

3. As for the third comment, it goes: “Am I imagining things, or are they removing more titles from Game Pass than they’re adding?” Simultaneously, the fourth subscriber comments: “Man, it seems like Game Pass is disintegrating.”

4. A third user says: “Is it just me, or are they taking away more games from Game Pass than they’re adding?” The fourth subscriber chimes in with: “It appears that Game Pass is self-destructing.”

The future of Xbox Game Pass is uncertain as it hasn’t been pulling in the expected or required number of subscribers for a sustainable long-term approach. Raising prices might temporarily help, but it seems that Xbox Game Pass may require adjustments within the next few months and years. If these adjustments involve fewer games, however, there’s a possibility that many subscribers could leave in droves. At least, this is suggested by current reactions.
