Xbox Game Pass Subscribers Are Getting a Bonus Game in December

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can confidently say that the addition of For the King II to Xbox Game Pass is nothing short of a game-changer (pun intended!). Having dabbled in tabletop RPGs and roguelikes throughout my gaming career, I’ve been eagerly awaiting a title that seamlessly blends these genres. The fact that For the King II offers a four-player co-op experience is the icing on the cake.

For PC and/or Xbox gamers who like to have a diverse set of games going at any given time, an Xbox Game Pass membership can be a real win. The service has hundreds of included titles at any given time, letting players experience a wide breadth of titles without the need to pay full price for each one. Like any subscription based model, new content is addedfairly regularly, and this month’s new titles were recently announced. However, Game Pass subscribers recently learned they’re getting yet another title added to their libraries this December!

More recently, Microsoft announced a communication from Iron Oak Games, creators of the For the King series. The initial installment, debuted in September 2019, garnered positive feedback from both players and critics. By combining aspects of tabletop games and roguelites, this expansive RPG allowed adventurers to delve into its narrative either solo or cooperatively in multiplayer mode, earning it significant acclaim among role-playing game enthusiasts. Following the success of the original game, Iron Oak began development on the sequel, For the King II, which was launched on Steam in November 2023.

In the opinion of numerous fresh and recurring enthusiasts, For the King II surpassed its predecessor by enhancing the most appealing aspects from the initial game while introducing additional areas to discover. Similar to the first game, it operates on a turn-based system, yet the sequel offers an enlarged party roster. For the King II enables players to assemble a party of up to four companions, replicating the tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) experience in a digital setting. The game also incorporates a grid-based combat system, allowing players to engage with the world through area-of-effect attacks and other interactive elements, thus making it seem even more like a traditional Dungeons & Dragons session than ever before.

For the King II Will Soon Be Available on Xbox Game Pass

Starting December 12th, gamers will have a new opportunity to join in on the fun as Iron Oak unveiled that “For the King II” will be accessible through Xbox Game Pass subscriptions, expanding the collection of RPG titles available for players this year.

For individuals who haven’t played the “For the King” series yet, this news is exceptionally thrilling because it marks the initial release from the franchise on the subscription service. Moreover, since the Game Pass edition will follow a year of Steam updates and enhancements, the game will debut with all the additional features introduced to the game over the course of a year’s worth of patches and improvements. This includes an Infinite Dungeon Mode and numerous skins and items that weren’t initially available at launch.

In this follow-up to “For the King”, players embark on an original D&D-style quest that doesn’t require knowledge of the first game. The narrative revolves around a once-adored queen who has succumbed to her desire for power, causing her to betray her people. Consequently, it falls upon the player’s party to traverse the realm of Fahrul, exploring diverse landscapes throughout their mission to overthrow the queen and reestablish harmony in the kingdom.

On December 12th, 2024, I’m thrilled to announce that “For the King II” will make its grand entrance on Xbox Game Pass! The dedicated team at Iron Oak Games can hardly wait to greet both seasoned and fresh faces in the Resistance. Let’s unite once more for an epic journey ahead!
