Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Adds Cloud Streaming for Games Players Own

As a long-time Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriber, I’ve always appreciated the convenience of being able to access a vast library of games on various devices. However, the recent announcement that we can now stream games we own is a game-changer for me! I mean, who doesn’t want to play their favorite titles on their smartphone or PC while commuting or during lunch breaks?

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate users have long enjoyed streaming games across multiple devices, but this feature is about to receive a significant enhancement. Previously, users could only stream games offered through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. But from now on, they’ll also be able to stream select games that they own directly as well. The choice will initially be limited, and both a Game Pass Ultimate subscription and a controller will still be necessary. This expansion will enable gamers to start streaming their owned games onto devices such as smartphones, PCs, and Amazon Fire Stick.

Microsoft’s Xbox has unveiled a fresh trailer demonstrating the operation of its latest feature. In the video you’re about to witness, Game Pass Ultimate subscribers are shown playing their games on multiple compatible devices. The aim is to provide greater flexibility for gamers who wish to access their collection even when it may not be conveniently possible otherwise.

Unfortunately, not every game will offer this feature right away. Xbox has initiated things with approximately 50 games that are playable if you already own them. Some of these games include “Assassin’s Creed Mirage”, “Balatro”, “Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake”, “Final Fantasy XIV Online”, “Hogwarts Legacy”, “Mortal Kombat 1”, “Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown”, and “Star Wars Outlaws”. Xbox appears to have prioritized high-profile games for this feature, rather than older options. However, the company has mentioned that the list will expand over time, making us curious about which titles will eventually be supported.

Games streamed on PC will have mouse and keyboard support, but regrettably, there’s no touch control available at this time for mobile devices. To play these games on your phone, you’ll need to connect a controller. However, some Game Pass Ultimate games do offer touch controls, but this feature disappears once the game is taken off the service. It would be beneficial if Xbox allowed Game Pass Ultimate users on mobile to maintain touch control options even after purchasing the game. Here’s hoping that becomes a priority as Xbox works on enhancing and optimizing the streaming of owned games.

In recent years, Microsoft has been advocating that any device capable of running Xbox games should be regarded as an Xbox. To attract more players to its games and potentially subscribers to Game Pass, they’ve focused on developing Cloud Streaming technology. Whether this approach will prove successful is yet to be determined, but it certainly offers additional playing options for existing Game Pass subscribers, which can only be seen as a positive development. The service has been improving significantly due to these efforts.
