Xbox Game Pass Users Threaten to Cancel Their Subscription: "Worst Month in the History of Game Pass"

As a long-time Xbox Game Pass subscriber who has seen its ups and downs over the years, I must admit that September 2023 has been quite a disappointment. The selection of games this month feels lackluster at best, with an overwhelming focus on strategy and PC-only titles, leaving console players like myself in the cold.

Some Xbox Game Pass subscribers on Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X are expressing strong dissatisfaction with their subscription service, claiming that September has been one of the poorest months for Game Pass in terms of content offerings. While it might seem like an exaggerated viewpoint, this isn’t entirely unfounded. This month has seen a limited number of significant additions and day-one games, which has left many disappointed. Furthermore, some of the more engaging games added to the service have only been available on PC, leaving console players who pay more feeling overlooked. To make matters worse, Game Pass has lost more appealing titles this month than it has gained.

This month’s featured games cater to different preferences, but the most anticipated new releases are primarily for PC platforms. They include “Frostpunk 2,” “Age of Mythology: Retold,” “Rider’s Republic,” and “Wargroove 2.” However, it’s important to note that these games may not be as widely known, with two being exclusive to PC, and a majority of them falling under the strategy game genre, which is quite specific.

During the last day of the previous month, the game “Atomic Heart” departed. In the middle of the month, we saw the departure of “Payday 3”, “Slime Rancher 2”, and others. But that’s not all. By the end of the month, another 10 games will be leaving, such as “Gotham Knights”, “Loop Hero”, “The Walking Dead”, “Valheim”, and a “Warhammer 40k” game. As a result, Xbox Game Pass said goodbye to 16 games in September, while only adding 7 new ones, none of which are part of the standard subscription tier.

It’s not surprising that the changes have caused discontent among Xbox Game Pass subscribers, particularly those using consoles. Some have even considered terminating their subscriptions by the end of this month.

“A subscriber on Reddit expresses frustration, saying they’re seriously considering canceling their subscription because the service isn’t worth it anymore. Another user shares that they haven’t been enjoying Game Pass recently, but they’ve been looking forward to Mafia because it’s been a while since any game on the platform excited them.

Another user chimes in, “This Game Pass month has been the worst ever recorded. None of the offered titles appealed to me in the least bit, and even if I found something I liked, the abundance of strategy and real-time strategy (RTS) games was overwhelming. There was absolutely no diversity this month, and it seems they’ve held onto the Activision-Blizzard collection for far too long.

Without a doubt, it’s important to mention that Tokyo Game Show is scheduled for later this month, specifically from September 26th to September 29th. There might be some unexpected announcements during the event. If no surprises are in store, there could potentially be a dip in Xbox Game Pass subscribers.
