On June 8th, Xbox is set to hold its Summer Game Showcase, offering a sneak peek into the games planned for their platform (possibly also other consoles). Given the peak level of speculation and anticipation, there have been numerous leaks hinting at what may be unveiled during the event. Notably absent from the limelight is Playground Games’ Forza division, which has been relatively quiet. While half of the studio is engrossed in Fable, it’s been four years since the last release of a Forza Horizon game – the longest gap between releases yet. This prolonged wait has sparked speculation among fans that they might finally get news about Forza Horizon 6.
Unluckily, the recent disclosure brings potentially disappointing updates for Xbox fans. The source of this leak is Extas1s, a YouTube content creator who’s known for relatively trustworthy Xbox Game Pass leaks, although their other details haven’t always been as dependable. Given their past inaccuracies, it would be prudent to approach this information with a significant amount of skepticism. Keep in mind that Extas1s has had several missteps over the last few months.
It’s been suggested that Playground Games will appear at the Xbox Showcase on June 8th, but they won’t reveal Forza Horizon 6 as previously speculated. Instead, they’re focusing their initial efforts on developing Fable. Given the excitement surrounding this RPG, it’s not entirely shocking, but fans of racing games may find this news disappointing.
You might recall that the latest Forza Horizon game was released in 2021. The gap between Forza Horizon 4 and its successor, 5, approximately lasted three years. As we are now beyond this period of time, but there was a release of Forza Motorsport 7 in the year 2023. Although these two games are developed by separate teams with distinct focuses within the racing genre, Microsoft intentionally spaces them out to ensure each game has enough space to grow and flourish separately.
It’s important to mention that the popular game, Forza Horizon 5, received extensive post-release support. This isn’t unusual for Playground Games, but it did result in a very prolonged period of popularity, making it challenging for the team to shift focus onto a new project as quickly as fans might have anticipated. Extras1s hints at this, suggesting that Forza Horizon 6 is only just beginning its development stages. They haven’t given a specific timeline for when we can expect official news about FH6, but it seems we may be waiting a year or more before its launch.
It’s great news that there are expected to be many exciting new games coming from the Xbox Showcase. Notably, we can expect a dedicated presentation for The Outer Wilds 2 post-Showcase, so it will likely play a significant role. Additionally, we can look forward to updates on the upcoming release of Fable, which is planned for 2026. Furthermore, other potential games such as Ninja Gaiden 4, Perfect Dark, and The Elder Scrolls 6 may also be discussed. To add to the anticipation, Xbox might have a few surprises up their sleeve too!
Be sure to tune into the Xbox Showcase on June 8th at 1 PM ET to see what’s next from Microsoft.
