Xbox Rips Off the Band Aid, ‘Expect Our Games to Show Up in More and More Places’

It’s clear for those who are observant that Xbox is moving towards a more versatile approach, embracing platforms beyond its own.

About a year back, during their widely discussed “business briefing”, they cautiously mentioned that four of their games would be released on multiple platforms. These included exclusive titles such as Sea of Thieves.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m picking up on some intriguing hints. Though Microsoft didn’t explicitly confirm it, it seems pretty clear that more titles from their catalog are gearing up for the PlayStation 5.

Since that announcement, we’ve learned about upcoming releases such as DOOM: The Dark Ages, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and more recently, Ninja Gaiden 4, all set to be launched on Sony’s platform.

And in interviews, boss Phil Spencer is no longer being vague about the situation.

We really appreciate our platform and the hardware we use, but we won’t create barriers that prevent people from enjoying the fantastic games our studios are creating,” he shared in an interview with Gamertag Radio. “Our focus is not limited to cloud gaming, PC, handheld devices, or mobile phones. We also support PlayStation, Nintendo, and Steam. It’s not just about PlayStation; we value all platforms.

“So, expect our games absolutely to show up in more and more places.”

Spencer elaborated by stating that he feels the strategy sets Microsoft apart, and it will provide a boost to creators who are keen on distributing their work across multiple platforms.

It seems quite plausible, but it’s hard not to think that business demands might be guiding the platform owner towards this direction.

Upon acquiring Bethesda, they promptly suspended the development of PS5 versions for Starfield, Redfall, and Indiana Jones: The Great Circle. Currently, they are discussing breaking down any obstacles that may have been created.

Spencer continued discussing their enthusiasm for backing Switch 2, hinting at numerous whispers of upcoming games destined for the Nintendo platform. It’s likely these titles will also debut on PlayStation 5 concurrently.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m beyond excited about the lineup that Xbox Game Studios has in store for us this year! From Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, it seems like they’ve got some major hits up their sleeve. I can hardly wait to experience these games on my PS5 – it’s shaping up to be an incredible year for Xbox Game Studios!
