As an enthusiastic gamer, I’ve found myself disappointed as a fan when I learned that a game exclusively released on Xbox consoles last year, which I was eagerly anticipating, has been taken down from the Microsoft Store in response to ongoing protests against Microsoft. The developer of the game, Ice Water Games, has stated that this action was due to a recent boycott of Microsoft initiated by the BDS Movement, a coalition advocating for Palestinian rights, as part of their solidarity with the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions campaign. This movement has recently added Microsoft to its list of companies to boycott.
In alignment with the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement’s decision to prioritize a boycott of Xbox, announced earlier this month, the team at Tenderfoot Tactics has chosen to stop selling our game on Xbox as a gesture of solidarity. This statement comes from Ice Water Games.
The statement further expresses: “We aspire that Microsoft takes notice of their employees’ and consumers’ opinions, and ceases all business dealings with the Israeli military, which we have observed perpetrating a blatant act of genocide in Gaza over the past 18 months. We wish for the larger public to unite in this advocacy effort, aiming to put an end to occupation and apartheid not just in Palestine but worldwide.
Tenderfoot Tactics initially launched in 2020, however, it didn’t arrive on Xbox consoles until February 21, 2024. This open-world tactics RPG doesn’t have any Metacritic data, but on Steam, it boasts 201 user reviews with 82% being positive. Essentially, most Xbox gamers likely didn’t even know about this game, so they wouldn’t be disappointed to find out it’s gone since it was entirely taken off the Xbox digital storefront. However, those who had added it to their Microsoft Store wishlist may notice its disappearance.
It seems the statement doesn’t provide any information about when the game might be back on the Microsoft Store. Most likely, it won’t come back until the boycott concludes or Microsoft is taken off the boycott list.
Currently, Microsoft hasn’t provided a response to the information presented earlier. However, if they do respond, we’ll promptly update the story accordingly.
