Without Microsoft publicly disclosing specific figures, the sales of Xbox Series X/S consoles have primarily been a topic of speculation and estimation, yet we occasionally receive somewhat official updates on the matter.
To put it simply, Take-Two Interactive’s latest report suggests that by November 2024, around 94 million units of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles have been sold globally, according to their estimates. This figure offers a rough indication of how well Microsoft’s current generation gaming hardware is performing compared to Sony’s PS5.
By September 30th, the PlayStation 5 had surpassed sales of 65.5 million units globally. Given that the last quarter of the year is typically the strongest for PlayStation, it’s likely that another few million units were sold in October. This would put the PS5’s total sales at approximately 67-69 million units, which implies that the Xbox Series X/S has been sold between 27-29 million units as of November, according to Take-Two’s reported figure of over 94 million consoles.
From where I stand as a passionate gaming enthusiast, it’s clear that even using the most modest projection for PS5 sales beyond September, it doesn’t bode well for the outlook of Xbox sales.
As an avid gaming enthusiast, I’ve been keeping a keen eye on the success of the Xbox Series X/S. Last year, analysts projected that by June, these consoles might have shipped approximately 28 million units globally. Interestingly, the last time Microsoft publicly disclosed official sales figures for the Xbox Series X/S was in June 2023, with a total of 21 million units sold worldwide at that point.
