As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must admit that the constant price fluctuations in the gaming industry can be quite disheartening at times. It seems like every few years, we have to adjust our wallets to accommodate for these changes. The latest price increase for the Xbox Series X/S in Japan is just another instance of this trend, and it’s leaving a bitter taste in my gaming-loving mouth.
In Japan, it has been reported by Famitsu that the Xbox Series X/S will undergo another price hike starting from August 15th. The cost of the Xbox Series X will rise to 66,978 yen, which is a 7,000 yen increase from its current price. Meanwhile, the Xbox Series S 1 TB (Black) will see an increase of 5,400 yen and will be priced at 49,978 yen.
In Japan, the Xbox Series S with a storage capacity of 512 GB will now retail at 44,578 yen. This represents an uptick of 6,600 yen from its previous price. Microsoft has stated that this adjustment is exclusive to Japan for now, as they frequently assess the influence of market fluctuations on local pricing. Notably, this is the second price rise in the region, with the last one occurring in January 2023.
Additionally, the rise in Game Pass prices is evident. The Xbox Game Pass Ultimate now costs $19.99 a month, an increase from its previous price of $16.99. In place of the regular Xbox Game Pass, we now have the Xbox Game Pass Standard which costs $14.99 monthly. However, this version does not include day-one launches. The PC Game Pass has also seen an increase in cost, now priced at $11.99 a month (up from $9.99). The Xbox Game Pass Core remains at its original price of $9.99 per month, but annual subscriptions have risen to $74.99 from their previous price of $59.99.
