Xbox Series X/S Worldwide Shipments Are Reportedly at 28.3 Million Units as of June

As a dedicated gamer who has been through multiple console generations, I must confess that this latest sales data has left me feeling a bit like a lone ranger in the wild west, outnumbered by the PlayStation 5 herd. Despite Microsoft’s strategic moves and the addition of blockbuster games from Activision Blizzard, it seems the Xbox Series X/S is struggling to keep pace with Sony’s juggernaut.

For several years now, Microsoft hasn’t been releasing sales figures for its console lineup. However, it’s become evident during the fourth year of this generation that Microsoft’s pair of consoles is significantly behind Sony’s PlayStation 5 in terms of sales. To provide more insight into this disparity, new sales projections have surfaced, offering a clearer picture of the number of units sold by both Microsoft and Sony.

According to analyst firm Aldora Intelligence, a video by Wall Street Journal revealed their estimate that the total shipments for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S amounted to 28.3 million units by June 30th. On the other hand, the PlayStation 5 has shipped 61.7 million units globally as of the same date. This means that the PlayStation 5 has outperformed its main rival, the Xbox series, selling more than double the amount.

Last June, we learned that the Xbox Series X/S had already sold more than 21 million units across the globe by that point. Despite Microsoft experiencing an increase in gaming income thanks to Activision Blizzard, their hardware revenue has persistently dropped, indicating a continuing decrease in sales for the Xbox Series X/S.
