Xbox update finally lets you buy games through the mobile app, while “Stream Your Own Game” comes to console

In a double dose of Xbox updates, Microsoft announced on Wednesday, via Xbox Wire, that they will soon allow users to purchase games and subscribe to Xbox Game Pass directly through the Xbox mobile application.

Initially, the Xbox mobile app possessed this feature some time in the past. However, it’s making a comeback, starting with a beta phase, eventually becoming available for all Android and iOS users.

It’s important to mention that with this update, the Remote Play feature will no longer be available within the Xbox app. Instead, users can access it by visiting xbox.com/remoteplay on any device equipped with a web browser.

In a noteworthy development, “Stream Your Own Game” Xbox Cloud Gaming is set to launch on Xbox consoles soon. This feature, long-anticipated by gamers, was initially rolled out last November, debuting with approximately 50 titles such as Baldur’s Gate 3 and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2.

At first, the option to “Stream Your Own Game” was only available on Amazon Fire TV sticks, virtual reality headsets like the Meta Quest, web browsers through Xbox.com/play, and Samsung Smart TVs.

On Wednesday, an update will be released that makes it possible for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers to stream certain games they own on their Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, or compatible devices.

In the future, likely around 2025, Microsoft intends to incorporate the feature called “Stream Your Own Game” into their Xbox PC application.

New additions are constantly being made to our “Stream Your Own Game” collection, featuring titles like Assassin’s Creed Shadows and The Thing: Remastered. Check out the recently updated list to see what’s new:
